Arrrrgggg! I've reached 500 tracks with accuracy of 83.26% and I'm still on 2 stars!!!!!
I've taken on board all of the review suggestions and I write about 4-6 sentences on average for most tracks. Am I destined to remain on 2 stars for ever and be forced to give constructive critism to some of the really bad tracks for eternity!!! Need some sleep.0 -
Its almost 4am and I just found an absolute gem.... Play any track by Paula Goberna, really...

Just to show i'm not all bad.....Carter Brown
Rating:8/10 Comment:I defy you not to bounce while listenin' to this..unless you have some kind of spine condition in which bouncin' would be....anyhoo. The sound has a rough quality to it which only gives it more life, the vocals are a little raw but this again adds to the flavour ...it tastes like punk to me ((bet ya !!! i spellchecked this before submittin')) Whats great is that this guy can actually sing. My three year old was hoppin' around like mad to this ((not a total endorsement cos he'd happily eat mud if i let him)). Attitude only gets ya so far, there's talent here too, one to watch
congrats on the star btw \o/
I agree totally, I've tipped them and they are way off my sort of thing. The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. - Chinese Proverb

Ah, here you all are! I've been distracted for the last 24 hours, think I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown, bills keep walking through the door, the boss found me crying at my desk and asked me to see a councillor...
This is the debt free wannabees right?
No seriously, I'm joking about the truth here, you haveto laugh or you'll cry sometimes. Catching up on the board has been a mood lifter. Thanks for posting those reviews, humour, if you can carry it off its definitely the way to let them down gently. When my band was making records way back in the 70's one music press review called me "Pedestrian" and its haunted me ever since. I still remember the review perfectly. So some of the harsh TV Talent show caustic reviews must burn the poor old artist eternaly. With the wisdom of hidsight I can see that he was being kind at the time, we were rhyming with rap - and we were punks! But we honestly though we were good. Its hard to let go of the delusion and lose another dream.
I'm feeling frustrated at my position of 141 and average of 86%, yet I'm a 3 star scout, maybe because I can take up to 20 lines on a review perhaps. I hardly dare be as concise as 3-4 lines even about drivel. It would be so much easier if you could just rate it as "drivel" but there you go.
I'm enjoying the challenge of trying to be positive about the tracks. The comic rich reviews here have certainly given me some inspiritation. I think it must help if your naturally wordy though.
But I digress! Frustrated at never changing average and position and I'm begining to think that the more tracks you do, the more the law of averages kicks in and the more you stay exactly wherever you are.
I grade accross the range 0-10, more often its 3-8. I dont stick religiously to the dreaded 5 in the belief it will help my average - If you considrer 6+ as good music and 5- as poor, then so long as you correctly identify which side a track falls then only 0 and 10 can seriously change your accuracy, and the more tracks you do, the less giving 0.,1,9 and 10 will do, because again of the law of averages, so I dont get hung up.
I've heard some quite interesting rap this time. I dont like rap but I really feel that my musical horizons are being widened and educated through being forced to listen to other genres and think seriously about their qualities. An unexpected bonus.
Also, doing this, while taking up my life is also a welcome diversion from my money problem. Artists who dis the star !!!!!s probably have no idea how desperate people can get - why else sit up clicking on Kelkoo liks to get 2p more towards the electric bill? They too need to get some understanding of other people before speaking harshly of them. The difference between 3p and 9p is a major one to me.
Whatever anyone thinks of "Urgent despatch" (Probably nothing complimentary, they were IMO truely awfull) I still remember the song perfectly now - A good contende for my "awful songs that irritate me so much I kinda like it in a wierd sort of way" collection. Be gentle on them, I think they must be the marmite of the Holiday genre - whatever that is.0 -
The difference between 9p and 15p is a big one also because it takes less time to make your money
All my money made is going to my debt jim so i understand where your coming from0 -
I understand where you're coming from Norfolk Jim - it's ridiculous sometimes that we really are counting the pennies to meet the next bill. I'm trying to do a qualification at the moment so that I can get some serious earnings but it's very time consuming yet if i put the same amount of energy into that as i have done stp recently i would be earning pounds not pennies yet the exam costs £100 and I haven't got that. I've taken it three times and failed by 2% twice.
I've just checked my bank balance - I had to cancel 2 dds so they wouldn't bounce on Monday but I'm just stalling. Don't get paid until 28th either which is maternity allowance.
At least stp is a welcome distraction and the fact that you see your earnings building up regularly certainly helps. I sold a lot of cds on amazon recently and the money just poured in - got over £125 for about 25 cds - some were ancient and never played - and helped me get through Christmas.
I've got my DH helping me write reviews too. He has such a different style and hears different things in the tracks. It must be interesting for an artist to get such a wide range of reviews from us all.
I think 86% is ok - you're not really going to go up until you reach 1000 reviews it seems, so don't worry about your average right now. How many tracks do you reveiw each day - my position tends to go up the more that i do.Here come the girls....100% Gorgeous!!!0
