Anyone had their Cap 1 cashback card cancelled?

Hi all,
I've had a situation recently and I was wondering if I'm being a little cynical.
I had the cashback card from Capital One and was paying off the full balance every month. About a week before Christmas I had a call from Cap 1 saying the security of my account was "at risk". They checked through all the transactions (all of which were fine) but said they had to cancel the card and would issue me a new one. I argued it, but they said if I used it again I would be responsible for any fraud that took place.
A week after New Year, no new card had materialised, so I sent them an email through secure banking asking why. No reply ever came but three days later a new card mysteriously arrived.
Given the amount of cashback I would have earned over Christmas and in the New Year sales, I can't help but wonder if something a bit more cynical is going on. The couldn't give me the reason why my account was called into question and said it was probably a tip-off from the police ?!? This doesn't really ring true.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

I can't believe that CAP 1 make up stories of potential fraud, they obviously had good reason for it so better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure If some kind of fraud had taken place and CAP1 told you they had suspected it may happen and you weren't advised you would have been damn annoyed.
As for the delayed card, I'd simply put it down to the Xmas holidays or a clerical error in producing the new one.
Maybe you ought to stop staying up late at night reading those mystery books !

No, I haven't had my Capital1 card withdrawn. But I have been rung 2 or 3 times and asked to confirm recent transactions. Seems they are especially hot on potential fraud, so I wouldn't take the cynical view here, irritating though it is in your case, lindsay2610.

My Capital One card was cancelled at the end of November/beginning of December. I'd only used it in a few different shops but it had been cloned and someone had tried to use it in Australia to withdraw cash. They phoned up my home when I was at work and spoke to my boyfriend and asked him if I was still in the country. I phoned them back and they told me what had happened.
They cancelled my card and the new card did take a couple of weeks to come through.
It seems they are very quick with detecting fraud unlike some other cards. They saved me a lot of hassle as I was reading in my local paper that a lot of people had their cards cloned where I live and some people had lost £5,000.00 from their bank accounts. Luckily I don't use my debit card.0
