Tell me about Crete

Hi guys and girls, I'm off to Elounda in Crete at the end of april and am just wondering what I need to know when I'm there.
A lad at work says I have to wear long trousers whenever I go for a meal, but someone else says it's only for evening meals
Also, very stupid question now, what language do Cretans speak? Am I right in thinking it's Greek, or am I being thick
If there is anything else I need to know, please feel free to impart your knowledge.

Hiya,
I found Elounda very typically laid back, like most Greek Island resorts.
If eating in a taverna I wouldn't be too concerned about dress code. Just whatever is comfortable for the weather.
There are a few lively bars and a club or two, giving you the chance to dress up if you like.
Dress codes are mainly in the big expensive hotels, so if you are staying in one of these, you may need to check.
In Crete they speak Greek, and if you've not been to Greece before i'm sure you'll have a lovely time. Do try and get out of Elounda for some sightseeing, as there are far better beaches on the South of the Island.0
