Hi guys,
I know this is the wrong place (again) but I know some of you use this device, so I didn't know if anyone could help me. I have posted this on the techie forum but that doesn't get read very often!! Thanks guys and sorry to be a pain!
Hi,
Hope you can help me.
I received my 3 mobile usb broadband 'dongle' yesterday and I installed it ok but when I get to press the connect button on the 3 mobile screen it tries to connect and it then says
'a connection to the remote computer could not be established so the port used for this connection was closed'
I tried called technical support and got through to india (:o ) and they went through a load of settings which made no difference at all and then they said that it could be because the sim card wasn't activiated yet and to give it 24 hours. I called to activate the sim and they said it was already activiated. Bearing in mind I've only got until tomorrow to send it back under the 3 day trial period - has anyone got any ideas how I can get it working????
Thanks
M

Is it a Huawei E220? That's the one I have, and it should be a straightforward plug and play. (Mine's Vodafone) I think O2 use the same one.
If it is, and you're on Vista, you may need to get downloads (while on an XP computer), then try again. Takes about 5 minutes to do, and you should have links for the upgrades on the O2 site.
If not, uninstall the software (control panel, add/remove or change programs) then try again.
If you're still having no luck, try My Computer, then rightclick the 3G icon, go to properties, then hardware, then troubleshoot - it may throw up something.
HTH.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Its a three mobile zte mobile modem. It is working off Vista and I thought that could be the problem?0

I considered getting one of those portable modems but after reading about people using phones as a modem instead i decided to go along that route and added a £5 monthly internet bolt on to my Three phone contract.
Using a Nokia phone and Nokia PC Suite software it really is a 1 click set up.WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
Doh! Sorry, don't know why I read it as O2!
It could be that your modem is not picking up a signal, so there's nothing to 'read'. My modem tells me what it's picking up by either a flashing or steady green or blue light (for packet or broadband) - does yours have something similar?
Try running a modem diagnostics to see if anything shows up - that should be on your 3broadband icon.
Try the microsofttech.net site to see if you can get help there .
As I said before, try uninstalling and re-installing, just in case.
Good luck!I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I've got one that I've used without any problems with Vista. Have you got access to another computer that you can try it on to see if the fault is with the dongle or the software on your laptop?
When I first plug mine in, it says 'data modem invalid' every time, but I leave it for about 10 seconds and it connects.
Is there a 3 shop anywhere near you? You can take the laptop and dongle in there and they'll look at it for you.0 -

It is picking up a signal as the light on the modem is green and the screen says that it is picking up a good 3G signal! Thats why I can't understand it all! I've also uninstalled and reinstalled and it stays the same. I will try that site thanks.0 -

Be careful about that- a guy managed to run up a 30k phone bill doing this because he didn't know he was going outwith the fair usage policy on the internet allowance0
