And I suppose you would quite happily work for nothing, be sprayed with harmful chemicals and have people in your family die of diseases that could be prevented for just a few pence.
People in the Third World are not asking for a political message they are asking for justice.
Lots of Fair Trade produce is excellent, I know we use it, in fact I really would recommend Tesco's Fair Trade Orange Juice is the best tasting I have had in years. If you have not tried Fair Trade for a while take another look, but if this chocolate is awful, all that means is this chocolate is awful. Try the Fair Trade Orange Juice instead, even better try and get some Tesco Fair Trade bananas, Tesco just cannot stock enough.0 -
can you keep this thread on the topic of the bargain, please guys.
it will have to be moved over to Discussion Time if the debate continues...

I agree I like chocolate that has been produced by child slaves, kidnapped and sold for $30. It just tastes so much sweeter knowing someone else is suffering so I can get fat.
well arent you just the bestest person in the world?
i suppose you only buy things that are hand produced in peru for £200 when you can get the same thing for 1 pence? i suppose you have never owned a pair of trainers or any sports wear? as that is mainly made in india, indonisia and china.
back on topic
i purchased just one bar of this chocolate yesterday and i have to say yumyumyum
it wasnt. as i thought and stated in my original post I THOUGHT, not proclaimed to the world my thoughts are the law, they are my thoughts, that most fare trade stuff is playing on the 'oooh buy me because it will make me feel like i have saved the earth' not because it is any better quality than any none fare trade product. there are of course exceptions, this bar unfortunately is not.
so next time i or for that matter anyone else posts something you dont agree with, make comments fine, but lay off any personal insults, you dont know me and i dont know you.what is the plural of moose?

Thankyou,
no insult intended mate, not actually sure there was one.0 -
I agree that it is silly to buy Fairtrade products just because they are Fairtrade. If they are rubbish they should be left on the shelves. Surely the point is that, as well as getting a fair price, we get a decent product. That is fair trade, and encourages the producers to compete properly.
The reason I make the point is that I have tried Fair Trade wines, and without exception they have been appalling. Stuff you wouldn't even cook with. So now I actively avoid their wines. As a moneysaver, I'll be damned if I'm paying 5 or 6 quid to pour the stuff down the sink.0 -
Thanks, couldn't resist picking up a few bars. It's not the best choclate ever but it's perfectly acceptable. These fairtrade products have improved vastly over the years and I used fairtrade tea and coffee which is very good.0

The point about Fair Trade is that it is trade not charity and therefore buying something that you cannot use is charity not trade. However, getting a bargain (the theme of this forum) is not just about the cheapest price, and there are those of us who still believe that getting a product which not only helps us but also helps others is an added value that means that something which may cost more is still a bargain because it does something more.
There is more to life than just getting more and more. Traidcraft produce some excellent fair trade wines, great chocolate, very popular cookies, excellent luxory muesli etc. I think that they are great value for money because most products you buy you consume and that is it, these can change people's lives. When you consider what a difference fair trade can make to a third world producer's life the extra cost is an absolute bargain.
BTW we do buy fair trade and enjoy it, my wife sells fair trade but any profit goes back to charity.
We bought this mixed case of Traidcraft wine and found it to be excellent, and yes it is more expensive but are excellent presents. A nice bottle of wine and a better world, as they say a present that gives twice.
