Well i work for one of the big four gas and electric providers (i wont say who just yet) and know just about how any of the processes work with regards to gas and electric and i am here to answer your questions if u have a problem with anything or would like to know how something works please ask away
gas and electric markets are a very bleak place for most people and most dont fully understand so from the littlest detail about a meter reading to the most complicated 3 year unbilled account on a change of supply objection notice, i will help you with what to say, who to say it to and what to do with each query i will also estimate your readings and help with any bill querys
looking forward to helping fellow savers

Hi Rubbish Question for you
I leave a property on 1/2/08
my DD comes out for BG Gas and BG Electric on the 1/02/08
But i give my final meter readings on the 1/02/2008 , will BG include my DD payments in the final bill or will i have to call them and ask if the finall DD payments have been taken off the final bill ?
Does that make sense and sorry its mundane !

no such thing as a rubbish question dan,
Yes they will include your DD in the bill, when you provide the readings the a final bill generally takes 7-14 days to produce this will include any payments until that date.
however bear in mind most companys when u pay by DD will take the final outstanding balance by DD this will be reflected on your final bill.
so for example you owe British GAS £300 they will attempt to take that from your bank balance 14 days after the date of the bill, if the bill is posted 2nd class which most major companys do it can take 7days to ge to you, that would leave 5 working days to the date of the payment. as most know DD payments are requested 7 Days in advance so this payment has already been requested before u recieve the bill, and unless you can get to the bank and cancel prepare for some charges as the company wont be able to cancel until that payment has processed either gone through or rejected.
so i would let your payment go through on the 1st then cancel the direct debit with your bank that allows you to control the final bill if its in debt or credit you can control it (which is a lot better for you)
hope this helps dan0 -

Utilitiesman, here's a question for you:
I want to buy a gas cooker for my eldest GD who is presently having the kitchen and bathroom replaced in her council flat. The one she has at the moment is disgusting, but when she moved into the flat it was from being homeless so she was grateful for having been given someone's old cast-off.
Have looked on the Comet site and all the gas cookers at the cheaper end of the market, which would be perfectly adequate, are described as 'may not be installed in flats'.
Why not? And where can I find a gas cooker that MAY be installed in a flat?

Margaret, I have had a quick look at the comet site, whereabouts is the bit about flats.
I looked at this one. http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/category.do?categoryId=277&n=1000277%2B7&findSimilarSearch=true&dimension=7
sorry, can't do little links.
Is it to do with the delivery.
If she is having kitchen re-done, make sure the electric socket (if needed) is in the correct place, I think it has to be a certain distance to the side of the cooker and not in a cupboard.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Sorry about that. It's the Currys site. She wanted it from them because they do delivery and take the old one away - her flat is upstairs, front door downstairs, if that makes any sense.
She has the council electricians going in tomorrow so I assume they know about the requirements for where the electric socket has to go.
The one in the Comet link looks about like what we're thinking of.

I bet it is to do with the free delivery thing.
If you know any scrappies, they will take it way for nothing, or have a word with the council lads, one of them might weigh it in.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Cashback through quidco for comet. 3% by the looks of things.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
