Just bought a new external DVD burner to connect to my laptop (internal one died)

So far only done basics but seems good machine. It comes with Nero but Ive not loaded that as my machines already has DVD and Cd burning software installed and drive is Plug and Play.

Anybody have this (or similiar drive) who can give me any pointers as to do's and donts for succesful burning.

Use decent disks and write slower to get a better quality write. Both will make the disks more compatible in dvd players and other disk players.

Why didnt you just replace the internal drive? when mine stoped reading anything I just undid a screw on the bottom and the drive slides out, remove the mounting bracket and fit it to the replacement drve, slide the drive back in and tighten the scre back up. link to a few drives I know they dont have the 20x write speed claim and the price isnt much cheaper than what you paid but your not lugging around another 2kg of dvd drive and power supply.

Dont use laptop "on the fly" much so carrying the extra weight isnt a problme. Also the unit is shared between two machines as well. Simple way to add DVD burner to two at once. Did look at replacing but in the end this was just the lazy option (and somebody told me it can be tricky in my machine -IBM thinkpad)

Thanks for recommendations. Pretty much the policy adopted already. Its only gonna be used for basic stuff so no real fancy options required. Thought it looked a good unit and some reviews I'd seen indicated Liteons are reliable.
