  • packet of mince (or veg mince or Quorn if you fancy) if youre skimping then go for the smallesp packet...or a bigger packet but make more shepards pie and freeze it
    Onion
couple of OXOs (you need some seasoning even if you dont like herbs etc!)

Fry your mince and onions , sprinkle over the oxos , pop in a little water, let it simmer a bit
peel your potatoes and chop them up - boil and mash them
empty your mince in a casserole dish or into smaller dishes if you want small pies - cover with the mash - pop on some cheese if you like and some tomato
bake at gas 6 for about 20/25 minutes ... enjoy !
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • You could try this and adapt the recipe to what you have in, or substitute ingredients.

I don't know if this recipe is on the link, but I have started copying my mother in laws recipe for cottage pie and it is really yummy..

I just put the mince and onions in a casserole with water and cook it on a medium heat for a few hours (usually all afternoon) I then stir in some beef gravy granules to thicken and add some more flavour and top with mash...

Minimum ingredients and really nice, I do buy the very lean mince though so not too fatty to cook without frying off first...

My mum used to add a packet of stuffing to the mince to bulk it out - very yummy :)

i use mince(250g packet) 3 carrots onion, gravy and mash

grate the carrots and fry with the mince (the carrots bulk it out) add onions and fry off, make gravy

pop in a dish and add the mash on top then in over for around 40 mins x

this does me and my 3 boys and then enough for 3 small portions in freezer (which my son then takes to lunchclub at playschool)

I made this for dinner on sunday. OH had the leftovers for his dinner yesterday.

I sauted an onion, three diced carrots and three diced parsnips until soft and put to one side. I browned some lamb mince (This was cheaper than beef mince in the butchers). When browned I added a splodge of tomato puree and mixed until it had absorbed all the lamb juices, added the veggies back in and added some water and a veggie stock cube. I cooked down for about 40mins and added several handfuls of frozen peas before simmering for another 15 mins. Then put in a dish and added mash to the top.

All in fro 4 portions it cost me approx £3
