hi raskazz I'm not trying to argue here, I think you may have misread my OP.

Firstly I am referring only to insurers who DO NOT ask for current mileage at signup.

How do I know your mileage at signup?

    I'm a little confused.

Insurers ask what mileage you are going to do in the year in which they are to insure you. 'Current' mileage is not relevant. Past mileage is not their concern.

If they repudiate a claim because they believe that you have misrepresented the mileage then it is up to you to prove what mileage you actually do.

If you then try to claim that you actually did a heavy mileage between the last MOT and the commencement of the policy with them then it will be up to you to prove it. Which will be impossible if they call your last insurer and ask them what mileage you disclosed...
  • I bought a car a few months ago and used !!!!!!!!! for an insurance comparison which required current mileage. As I have 0 no claims I had to keep the mileage below 5,000 otherwise the price rose steeply. T&C's stipulate that, in the event of a claim, a further excess will apply for every 1,000 over the allowed 5,000.

Even that is a risk worth taking. Pay less but pay more if you claim :) It's like a loophole voluntary excess.

Alternatively pick the cheapest insurer that does not ask.
  • Giving your milage does not affect the premium as some might have you believe. Try it. Get a quote then suggest to them you want to change some details, change your milage and you will see it makes no difference whatso ever. I done just that last night, read my thread for minibus insurance. I was only going to do low milage and its still a fortune.
