Hotel in Manchester

Hi all, I am looking to book a hotel in Manchester for my DF's 30th birthday. I am from Manchester so have never had the need to stay there before, we live in N Wales now but enjoy nights out in Manc, usually stay at my mums. Thought I would make his bday special as we had a baby in March and haven't had a night out on our own as yet. Looking at spending around £100 but don't really want Travelodge type place (although they are very nice, not very 'special'). I have looked on a few websites and I heard the Hilton is very nice but they want, cough cough £380 a night!
Thanks in advance

Have you tried the Arora? Its 4 star so nice, but no pool which is why it is cheaper than the likes of the midland etc. Also, the bar & restaurant which is attached ( Obsidian) is nice and open late! we paid £109/ night through active hotels for dbl room no breakfast. Also try a few sites like lateroom for the midland, cos you can get good deals ( we once got a double inc brekkie for £80).0

I used Priceline-if you don't have a particular hotel in mind it night suit you too.
I booked a 4 star (this was July) city centre Manchester-came to £55 including taxes and I got the Marriott Victoria and Albert which was absolutely FAB (usual price was around £130-150 for the night we stayed)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Thanks very much I will give them a look now. I have always dreamed of staying at the victoria and albert hotel as I had to do some research on it when I was at college and it looked soooo posh, here's hoping!0

If you need someone to talk you through how Priceline's "name your own price" works just drop me a PM but there is also a very comprehensive thread about "how to" on here too
