Thomsons - pricing how reliable ?

Just how reliable are Thomsons with pricing - when you book online ?
Last week I booked a holiday that departs at the end of January.
I was supposed to get e-mail confirmation but nothing arrived so I chased that up via the phone (more pennies spent ...) & the person I spoke to on the phone put it down to a computer "blip" but said the tickets had been posted anyway.
Very strange as my online booking clearly stated only e-mail confirmation would be sent.
During the online booking there was a message that the price had increased by X amount but I assumed this amount had been calculated in the costing as I hadn't yet provided my credit card details.
Today I arrived home from work to find a lovely message on the answer phone -
"it's regarding your X pounds balance due .. the amount needs to be paid 8 weeks before departure ... otherwise it may result in a cancellation ... please ring this number ...."
The amount only adds up to 5 pounds per passenger but it is still annoying.
I even received my tickets today - with no indication of any amount owed !
Has this scenrario ever happened to anyone else & legally where do I stand ?
Cheers
