Managers Special- Floors2go

Hi!

Yesterday I purchased 40sq m of Oak flooring from Floors2go that was advertised in the shop as a Manager's special. The sign indicated that the flooring was previously £49.99/sqm and it was now reduced to £24.99. I liked the floor and thought I was getting a brilliant deal so I ordered it. However I checked on their website when I got home and it shows a normal selling price of £24.99. I rang 4 other stores in my area and asked them if they stocked the floor and what was the normal selling price, they all said £24.99. I feel like I have been deceived by the store and that the product musn't be of as good a standard as I was lead to believe. What should I do, should I cancel my order, should I contact trading standards?

I would be grateful for any advice!

  • they may well have sold it for £49.99 in that store in the past. I know some stores only have to have sold an item in 1 store at the higher price to list it as reduced.

They have probably sold it at the higher price for the obligatory length of time required by law so that they can claim a 'reduction'. I noticed a washer in Currys the other day with a price way over the rrp, obviously waiting to be 'discounted'.
Obviously though if you go ahead with the purchase you are not getting a really good deal, it may be worth shopping around.
I think FTG was quite good when they first started trading as there was very little competition. I don't think this is the case though now.

    very common practice amongst retailers.
when you have say a hundred stores its very easy to get your inverness branch to increase a price for the legal period, then announce a massive reduction sale in all your stores.
furniture stores do it in december when they dont sell much anyways. increase the price and wait until boxing day. massive sale!

garden centres do it in february. easter weekend? massive sale.

    youve been had im afraid.

    Thanks!
At the time we did ask the salesman if this was a genuine reduction and he said yes! He also said it would be going back up to £49.99 after the sale. I think I am going to cancel my order and go to a local supplier.

Just been thinking! If they only had to sell it in one store at a higher price why aren't the other stores advertising it as half price? They all told me that £24.99 was their normal price. I think it is the one store I visited that is trying to increase their sales, maybe not honestly!!!

So you bought the floor based on the amount you thought you had saved...isnt this a daft way of buying. I only look at the price im paying and then decide if its worth that. If i saw a coat which said rrp £1000 now only £150 i would only buy it if i thought it was worth £100, i dont take the saving into acount at all as i wouldnt have seen that product before it was reduced.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
  • No I buy things based on value for money! I have a budget and if when asking for advise I am told a product is of higher quality and it is reduced I am going to buy the product of higher quality!!!!! Compared to a product of the same value which is normally of that value and not meant to be of the same quality!!!
