Hewlett Packard "cashback" promotion

I try to avoid purchases with a cashback offer because it's paid for in the price anyway and a lot of companies hide pitfalls in the ts & cs for the offer.
Anyway I purchased a HP laptop early Nov. last year, there was a£50 cashback offer. I fulfilled the requirements and a few days later received a confirmation e-mail advising the £50would be paid with 28 days. Forward to 6 weeks after and no £50. I e-mailed asking where the money was and the excuse was they had been overwhelmed:rolleyes: and a cheque would be sent within 15 days.
Forward again to present - no cheque over 2 months now. They are not now answering e-mailed enquiries in spite of twice now being given 7 days to pay. Fortunately i have an address so next step is writing with a further 7 days and then County Court - yes even for £50!
Not impressed with HP at all. bunch of barstewards.
In comparison, bought a Canon printer mid Dec. with a £20 cashback offer, cheque received this morning, what a difference and including Christmas period as well.
Why do these outfits make these offers when they know full well they're not going to deliver in the end?

In the same situation. Finally got an email reply today with the being overwhelmed excuse (have had to wait a fortnight for that after several emails!) and that they are currently processing claims for the end of November... If this is so then your claim should have been processed by now if it was for early Nov - any sign of a cheque? As my claim went in at the beginning of Dec Ive been told I have 'a little while' yet til the cheque will be coming !! Not been overly impressed as really didn't expect to have to chase this up.0

Hi salsaholic. I'd forgotten about posting this!!
Yes, a cheque finally arrived on the 20th January. I did manage to get a direct 'phone number from HP for the people handling the promotion. Unfortunately don't have it now otherwise I'd post it here.
In fact I 'phoned on the 19th, was it a coincidence the cheque arrived the day after?
It does annoy me when these people can't honour their promises.
Anyway good luck, the cheque must be in the pipeline somewhere for you and at least you had a response from them.0 -
Sent off my claim on 25th January and have had no reply. Sent it recorded delivery and according to Royal Mail they cannot tell me whether it has been delivered or not. How can I contact HP regarding this? Do not have an address or anything, except the minimal address that the man in the post office wrote on the recorded delivery slip.0

I also had trouble confirming delivery from RM, when I spoke to them I was advised that delivery had taken place before I sent off the claim!!! Work that one out. Apparently they were doing "mass" deliveries and not obtaining signatures for each, makes a mockery of the Signed For service doesn't it?
It's only 9 days since you sent off the claim with a weekend in between so maybe not yet time to panic. I can't remember how long before I received the confirmation e-mail, but it was a few days.
Unfortunately I now no longer have all the details but the contact e-mail for the people handling the promotion is pcsavings@out-bound.co.uk.
I obtained a contact 'phone number for the promoters from Hewlett Packard
by dialling them on 08452 704142 (customer services possibly). HP were very helpful and divulged the number readily.
Hope that helps a little bit.0 -
Thanks for that, I managed to find the details and have emailed them so will see if they answer. Meanwhile have found out the name of HP's chairman so if I have no joy within the net couple of days, he will be getting a letter. I have found in the past that if you go straight to the top usually something gets done.0

Received an email today and should be getting a cheque for £50 within the next 28 days.0
