Here are some links to places that will recycle VHS tapes, although it seems to be easier to deal with large quantities - maybe a community scheme to collect them up and have a single large collection would be a good idea?

However, it's always worth taking them along if you're doing a car boot sale, drop them off at a charity shop or offer them on freecycle, as pre-recorded children's tapes are very popular. VHS tapes are much easier for small children to handle than DVDs.

These guys recycle CDs, DVDs and more...

  • Hello all,
please excuse me, I'm a noob.

I dont know anywhere that recycles mass produced data cds or homemade ones, I was looking for the same thing.

musicmagpie.com buys music and dvds (and games i think) but thats not a lot of good here.

As for VHS, other than using it as fuel in a camp fire, i'm afraid theyre not going anywhere. I remember my mum always said to me "keep those Disney videos, theyll be worth something one day" Afraid not...

I volunteer at at Cancer Research shop and any unsold unwanted VHS tapes, CDs and cases are collected for recycling by the firm which also takes old clothes. Clothes go to Third World, don't know what they do with the tapes and CDs ( which we have to separate from their boxes)

You could always hang the Vhs tapes on your wall.

  • Environmental Media Solutions are now offering to dispose of up to 100 VHS tapes for FREE.

I'm not allowed to post the link, but if you Google "ems europe vhs recycling" it's the first one.
  • I am currently in the process of setting up a company that is recycling old VHS tapes. It is a crime to see all these tapes end up in landfill. If anyone is interested in this please send me a message. We can deal with any quantities. We do not set a limit on the amount.

Can you please post your details on here so that we can look at the costs of getting them to you
    Thanks

They will take 100 Vhs cassettes free of charge but if you have to post them then goodness only knows what that will cost you.

I can find no way of including them in usual waste recycling schemes - if anyone knows different then please post because I have to clear them, they are mostly home made so unwanted by any charity shop
  • EMS have now removed the 100 VHS limit for domestic users.

I haven't used them (yet), so can't say what it would cost to post the items.

That's good because the firm that used to take VHS tapes and CDs from our Cancer Research shop won't take them any more and in fact we were told some time ago to stop accepting VHS tapes!
