  • Is this aimed at me? I never said I can't afford to stop eating it. If you read my posts you'll have noticed that I said previously that I need to SAVE MONEY from my £5pw food budget over the space of 2-3 weeks to be able to buy myself a chicken.

Why would I want to substitute the only meat I consume with MORE vegetables? I already eat fruit, veg, pulses and grain, I'm not cutting out meat completely and I'm not going to quit eating chicken to eat something else because someone on the internet told me to.

I'll not have my morals questioned by some faceless judgemental nobody on the internet either, thanks.

All my post intended to say was that if you claim to care morally about chickens, but you can't afford free range chicken, it is better not to buy chicken at all. It wasn't aimed at you and is not even relevant to your posts. If you'll note, I said fair play to those who dont claim to be concerned about animal welfare - my post was aimed at those who say they are bothered and don't act on it.

I think you're taking all this a little too personally for someone who's so quick to insult.
  • Its ok for all those chefs with bloody double barrel names saying this, they can afford to pay whatever!

But many people like myself are already struggling to make ends meet, more so now that petrol, gas and electric, housing, and food prices have rised sharply!

Many people just cant afford the choice of organic or free range stuff, and without mass production of food we could not sustain the worlds population as it stands today.

So celeb chefs or whatever you want to call yourselfs, stick to you frais gras and F***** keep your nose out of the news and politics

I'm not quite sure what him going to Eton, has anything to do with it. I wouldn't care who was doing the programme and pointing out the cruelty, I think the consumer should know the realities of what they are buying and eating, and then make an informed decision. I don't have much money to spare, but I only buy free range, if I can't afford it one week, I go without.

Yes - it's not up to anyone to "dictate" - we will all make our own unique choices. However, the programs are meant to inform and educate on the choices available to us.

Those who didn't previously know about the cruelty happening in intensive farming are now making an informed choice to buy free-range. Not because "some toff" has told them to, but because they now have a greater understanding and choose to.

  • I like chickens... Eating them, that is... and I don't give a cheep how they get on my plate.

Chicken welfare? Give me a break. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we are weird!

Grow 'em, cook 'em and eat 'em!

What next? A super tax on KFC? Sheeesh!
