Newcastlenet [Issue 7]

Options
I've just tried to open one of these best buy savings accounts and I keep getting 'An error occurred, please try again.'
Has anyone else succeeded in opening one?

I rang their helpdesk, they said the server couldn't cope, the account was proving too popular, try again when it's not busy. Trouble is, she didn't know when that would be!

Opened mine on 4 January - probably in the evening. I also guess that this was not such a busy day as a lot of people would have been on leave from work.

I would suggest you try in the late evening and, if you fail then, at 2 am!

No problem for me either, keep trying.
  • Just finished applying not five mins ago. No problems apart from the fact my bank (Alliance/Leicester) won't allow me to transfer funds over the internet, I'll have to do it via CHAPS or BACS.

Thanks for the info on this account.Just opened it ,very smooth process.

I used to think it was easier to have as few instant access accounts as poss but now am hedging my bets with the uncertainty of the interest rates.I have now got 3 separate ones with different providers and whoever stays with the best rates will get the most money!!

I fixed mine and hubbys Isa last year and oh boy am i glad i did.

:rotfl: thats typical Newcastle BS behaviour adding xtra .05% to the base rate decrease of 0.25%, made sure it was beseiged with applications before announcing decrease of 0.30%. :rotfl:

keep eyes peeled for issue 8. :rotfl:Before people think well they would just transfer their funds from issue 7 into issue 8, the in thing with Newcastle BS is not allowing people to transfer funds from an existing Newcastle account into a newly launched high paying account. :rotfl:

im suprised people didnt besige heritage bank. :rotfl: http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/savings/bestbuys/instant-access-savings-accounts.aspx

imo theres only one good thing that Newcastle BS are good for and that is buying other Building Societies. :rotfl:

I assume by your post Newcastle often do this?

Also who are the Heritable Bank? Are they likely to attract funds then drop?

Thanks!! I was going to transfer some money in to start the account on the 25th,when i get paid!! maybe i won't bother!! At present i have money in Northern Rock, silver savings, with the extra .05% and Bradford and Bingley at 6.40% .

What do others do? Do you open new better rate accounts and keep transferring or do you think you lose more than you gain if you have to put the money into yopur current account to transfer out again. It is a real jumble at present with the rates, isn't it?

I don't want to fix just yet as i want to be able to put 2 lots of years subscriptions in New Isas in April.
