I've fitted a Stuart Turner "Monsoon" pump to my bathroom. (It's the smallest one in the range)

It powers the bath & mixer taps, wash hand basin, separate shower & loo.

There available at all good plumbers merchants.

Or there based in Henley on Thames if you what to pick one up.

Stuart Turner "Monsoon, best on the market,B&Q,Wicks you get what you pay for.
As for fitting it in the loft, not a good idea, you will need a special pump with negative pressure (expensive) as a normal pump will have a tendancy to draw air into the system from the cold/hot supply,s

As plumb1 has pointed out, Monsoon is the best one on the market. And I have personally been involved in fitting many of them.

I've no experience with salamander or showerforce.

I was thinking of putting a pump in the loft too to try and keep the noise down in the bedrooms. Having seen the prices of the negative presure ones I might have to change my plans. Whats the best way to fit them as to reduce noise? Or in fact which manufacturers produce the quietest pumps?

  • I can't believe I have'nt thought of asking about a new shower pump before now. ::)

We live in an upstairs flat and have a combination boiler. When we first had an over-the-bath shower installed (err about 10 years ago!), we were told that we needed a pump because there is'nt enough 'height' in our loft for a power shower, and we've never changed the pump, which is under the bath.

I would like to think that things have moved on a tad since then and would dearly love a stronger shower. Would the Monsoon pump mentioned above be suitable for us and if so, would we need to change the shower head too? That would be a pain because it's built into the tiles.

I'd be grateful for any advice. :-/

  • I'd be surprised if you'd need a pump with a combi boiler as they normally run at mains pressure (or close to). Think its would be a good idea to have a thermostatic mixer but not essential. Mind you I'm not a plumber so I could be wrong.

My pump is situated in a cupboard, on the floor.
I've enclosed it in a box, and the box is lined with 2" polystyrene.

You can still hear it hum when its on, but it's very minimal.

I'm not quite sure what your getting at but,
Combi's are a pressurized system, and therefore pumps are not normally fitted, although you say you have one fitted. Is this not adequate then.

May be in your situation an electric power shower would be the answer (they have a pump Incorporated in them), though I'm not a fan of 'em.

  • I've been thinking of having a pump fitted too. Does anyone have any idea how much I would expect to have to pay a plumber to fit one of these?

I suggest you get a couple of estimates. The pump itself cost's around £260 (1.5 bar) and probable 1/2 a days labour.
