Harveys Furniture takes me for a RIDE

Apologies if this is not the currect forum for this. I found it to be closest to what I'm facing at the moment.
I booked a 4 piece sofa set and a dining set from Harveys Basingstoke on 25 October 2007. The store had promised me a pre-christmas delivery. As we were moving in a new house and I did not have a firm date for exchange, I told the salesperson that I'd communicate the date of delivery as soon as I know it.
About 4 weeks later I call the store to communicate the delivery date (Dec 15) and I was told that the sofa has a standard delivery lead time of 7 - 11 weeks. They had mentioned that in a box on my invoice. I made it clear to them that I was very clear on a pre Christmas delivery, but inspite of that they have put this clause. I also discovered that they have changed my invoice number to another and dated it October 30 (as against October 25 for which I have the payment slip and invoice). At this stage they offered me to loan a 3-seater sofa and a dining table and mentioned that the booked item would be delivered by the 2nd week fo January.
last week when I called again, I was told that the new delivery date is around January 23! When I asked for the reason fo delay they mentioned that the manufacturer has delayed the shipment. The new date is more than their stipulated delivery lead time (7 - 11 weeks) which was inserted in my invoice without my knowledge. During both time, I had called their customer service and complained. I had also used their web form to explain the situation. But I am amazed that they have not bothered to reply.
Can anyone suggest what should I do in this situation?

if you made it plain that pre xmas delivery "time is of the essence", then you can cancell the contract.
you really should have written that on the order form "time is of the essence". pre 25th december delivery.
but if you have a witness then that should be ok too.Get some gorm.0 -
Ormus has a point, but Harveys seem to have "evidence" that you agreed to their standard delivery terms. And I'll bet the small print states that they cannot guarantee delivery within 7-11 weeks anyway.
What did your original invoice say about delivery?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
We ordered sofas from John Lewis some time last year, we are now begining to wonder if we will ever get them. Delivery was due for around New years eve, then end of January, now we had another phone call saying hopefully first week in Feb."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0

Husband and I went to Harvey's yesterday. We got quoted 17 weeks wait for a new sofa, not surprising we decided against it!If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Considering how bad Xmas was for the furniture retailors I'm surprised that there has been so many cases of such shoddy service. If they upped their game then maybe they could have got a few more sales.0

i would never buy from harveys again. i purchased 3 & 2 seater settee from them 2 years ago, origanely quoted 6 weeks, they took 4 months to arrive:mad:  every 3 weeks they contacted me to say there was another delay - never knew the reason there just was. eventually i emailed them to say i was fed up and i got a phone call from the manager from the local store to say the reason for the delay was because the sale had had a better take up than expected and the factory was overloaded.. i explained that their had been a sale on at the time of purchase but the items i had ordered were not in the sale and still on display in the shop at the non sale price (900 pounds) , he apolagised and offered me the display model, i pointed out that th order was for terrecotta and display model was brown!! he didnt know, he agreed to ring me back. and the next day i got a call from him saying my furniture was ready for delivery with free scotch gaurd coating. furniture lovely but i know they have given me items that someone else had ordered with scotch gaurd as i threated to cancel.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
