Keeping old email address after ending contract

This might be better placed on the ISP forum... does anyone know if this is possible, specifically with Demon Internet?

I am throwing money away in a drastically anti-MSE manner by paying for my old dial-up account in parallel with a my broadband with a different ISP, purely to keep the 13 years old email address which is tied to an absolutely massive list of friends, contacts and online registrations.

Any suggestions welcomed! If there's no way I'll bite the bullet and start making the changes but it will be very painful and I'll certainly miss important things until too late.

well I am sure, they will not sell the demon.co.uk domain to you ....

Have you spoken to them ? After 13 years ... they may be able to put an auto-forwarder on your account for free.

Alternatively - They also do broadband, so you could move to them.

This won't help but I was lucky in that my oldest email address belongs to an isp that was eventually acquired by bt/yahoo - so free email, has demon anything like that ?

You could contact Demon and ask if they'll just let you have the address as a POP box, which should be much cheaper than paying for a dial-up account.

Before you change all logins and notify your friends of your new address, I suggest you purchase a domain, something like YourfirstnameYousurname.co.uk from any of the decent on-line domain companies, (123-reg, one and one, etc)only a few quid per year too.

Then have your email address as name@YourfirstnameYousurname.co.uk

Then route this, to your current ISPs email address. Most companies which sell domains have a simple control panel to allow this (I use www.123-reg.co.uk).

Set the reply address in your email application to also show this address.

Then if you change your ISP in a few years, all you have to do is make one change in your domain control panel to add the new ISP address, and you won't have to tell a million people!

Can you downgrade it to PAYG Dialup?

Then just login to the dialup account every now and then and setup Outlook to receive/send mail on that account.

    EDIT:

Just looked, they don't seem to do PAYG.

I have a similar question to BrunoM. We are currently with BT but are changing to TalkTalk (hope we won't regret it) and currently have e-mail addresses for ...@btinternet.com and ...@talk21.com. Can anyone advise if we will be able to retain these once we move to TalkTalk as don't fancy having to alert everyone.
If not possible, any recommendations for other free addresses, other than gmail.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Aren't these addresses now accessed via BT/Yahoo - in which case, yahoo email is free and you can keep them ...... try to login here https://mail.yahoo.com/
