Eurotunnel and self drive vs Eurostar to Paris

Which way would you recommend and which would work out cheapest?

Can anyone help? It will be 1000 mile round trip for driving not sure what average cost per mile would be. Eurostar is going to be £268 from St Pancras for us all plus will have to get to London and stay overnight.

Thanks

You do NOT want to drive in central Paris. You do NOT want to park in central Paris. No contest. (If it's Dizney wotsit then that's different)

However, if you've a long journey to London a budget flight to Paris from a regional airport might turn out cheaper.
  • By using www.viamichlein.com a 1000 mile return trip from the UK would cost around £170 return in petrol and road toll costs. The cheapest ferry crossing would be £38 return with Norfolkline, the cheapest Eurotunnel crossing is unlikely to come to less than £100 return. You are therefore looking at around £208 or £270 return trip to Paris for petrol, road tolls and crossing. Then you have to add on any other costs like meals you will consume en route.

Really £268 Eurostar tickets seem rather good value, especially if you can get a cheap room at the 3 Travelodges (soon to be 4) in close proximity to St Pancras. You can often get £19/£29/£39 rooms in these Travelodges which sleep 2-4 people, dependent upon which one you book.

Where are you travelling from and why are you contemplating staying over in London. Can you not find/purchase a ticket for through travel from your home town to Disney?
  • We are travelling from the Midlands and want to get a really early Eurostar train ie 6am approx. Just thought it was an idea to stay over as taking two children to make it easier on them.

Never done the journey before so am just looking for ideas and tips.
  • The £268 Eurostar fare from St Pancras does on reflection sound fair. If you were able to find yourself four of the promotion fares at £59 return that would only be a saving of £32. I am surprised that when I looked at the Eurostar website for 2 adults + 2 children from Birmingham to Disney World it is £498. Unless of course I have it wrong. I must have, it don't sound right. I am going back to have another look!
  • Hi just wondering why you are not doing a package with a tour operatore, have donw DLRP twice now, and have orgainsed 2 extra trips for my brother and a family group and both times worked out cheaper using a tour operator eg Ledger or Cresta

If i the direct disney train leaves pancras at 9.05 am if you left west mids for the train journey you would leave at what say 6.30am (you only need to check in with eurostar 45/30 mins before train) Not sure which hotel you are staying at but both times i have taken my 2 girls for a 3n/4d at santa fe at xmas and july cost £750 just an option though,

If you still want to self drive, drive to dover from brimingham would take about 6.5 hours, stay overnight at a travelodge en route eg Medway services or Canterbury, then catch an early ferry from dover and it is a 3 hour drive from there with approx £20 worth of tolls

I plan to self drive this xmas so we can have longer time there, we are only 30 mins fromd over so it helps!

hope that helped a bit check out this forum for other useful info : http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=77
  • I think you will have to research this further at both your local station and travel agent. I am getting nowhere as it is so far in advance. The suggestion of booking it with a Eurostar specialist holiday company is the best bet I think. At least if anything goes pear shaped you have them to look to.

    Hi

I think I am going to wait a bit nearer the time to book the transport. Have already booked the hotel and passes via disney direct but a few people advised me not to book the transport via disney as was lots more expensive. The reason ours was £268 is because we have an under 4 who is free so only for 2 adults and one child. That is just from St Pancras to Disney as we are thinking of getting a National Express Funfare ticket to London from Birmingham as you can get tickets for £1 each!! The coach drops you at Victoria and then u can either get the tube or taxi to St Pancras which is 3 miles away from Victoria.

It shouldn't take 6.5 hrs from Birmingham to Dover going backwards in an Allegro!
