USB mouse ~ windows malfunction?!

I've just got a USB plug and play keyboard and mouse.

The keyboard will plug in and work right away, but when I plug the mouse into any usb, I keep getting a 'malfunction & windows does not recognise it' error message.

Any ideas what I can do to get it working? :)

No, no drivers come with it, any I can find on the net don't work either :(

Tried 3 ubs ports in the back of the tower, plus the 2 on the front and none of them will work.

Try clicking on the mouse icon in control panel and then the Hardware tab.

There's nothing there. When I plug my old mouse back in, that shows, but nothing shows when I plug the new one in.

I've tried it on sons PC and it works fine and I've tried it with daughters laptop and it works fine on that too.

If you did not get any drivers for the device, you may need to download them from the manufacturers website.

Thanks, but I've already been there and there are no drivers for it.

I have dealt with a few pc's that have had problems with usb mice. The mice have been fine in other pc's and even with the correct drivers from the manufactuer and check through the bios settings have still had issues. Have found that a different usb mouse may be ok or gone back to ps2 mice in these instances. Not sure if some motherboards are the problem or if it is windows.
