How can I hurry my vendors solicitor?

As some of you will remember I was having a complete nightmare with a house which went into probate...so we had to cut our losses on that one and move on. We lost £1200 but we just couldn't wait for a house which needed complete renovation and was at quite a high price in comparison to the market now.
We purchased another. No chain, woo hoo. The guy is moving in with his girlfriend. We are now first time buyers (back at mom and dads!) with over 25% deposit. We told the guy when we put the offer in that we wanted to push for completion within a month and he agreed. This was 5 weeks ago...his solicitor only sent the contract out last thursday despite me constantly phoning the estate agents.
My solicitor called me yesterday to say that ALL of the paper work was incomplete and that she wasn't happy with the contract either. She sent out additional enquiries on friday. I asked her how long we were now looking at and she said 'oh at least a few weeks now'.
As I'm sure you can imagine I am pretty fed up with this now. I have started a full time job, writing up my phd, living with my parents, partner and 2 cats in a 3 bed house. My parents are having work done next weekend which will make life terrible. I just have no idea what I can do, if anything, to speed things up. Any advice?

Gosh it sounds pretty hectic.
The big thing you could do is threaten to pull out unless you exchange within a deadline, say 2 weeks. Although I wouldnt recommend doing this it will certainly cause the estate agent and vendor to hassle their solicitor.
Alternatively you could ask the estate agent to call the solicitor every day, although this might just annoy them and cause them to go slower.0 -
I can't really afford to threaten them with pulling out, as we lost so much on the last house we can't afford to lose any on this one too. I also doubt it would bother the vendor as he isn't selling to buy another property. his wife died 2 years ago so the house is paid for and just providing 'pocket money' (his words!)
I just want to know how long we are looking at as noone seems to know and his solicitors don't seem in a hurry at all!0 -
Looks like you can't do much about it. You could try speaking to the Vendor to see if he can speed up his solicitor.
good luck!0
