Can you paint a toilet?

We have an old avocado toilet in our house and rather than replacing this (as we will knock through the separate toilet to the bathroom in a few years and it is an old Lynx Series pull chain cistern) – we want to update it but painting the toilet white. Is there a special dedicated paint for painting toilets? We are only going to paint the outside of the toilet (and inside the seat/lip) not all the inside.
Has anyone done this? Or can recommend a special paint?
Thanks

weve painted ours with normal tile paint, however ive only painted the outside, i didnt do the top/lip, as it was mainly covered by the seat, and i wasnt sure how well it would withstand a good scrub, and neat bleach does peel of the paint, as i found out, when i spilt some down the side of the loo, so i had to repaint it
our paint has been on for about 5yrs now0 -
B]Wondered if any one could advise me please on a few questions I have: [/B]
confused:1. Is it possible to paint the top part of the toilet :think:I think it is called the cinistern
2. If so what paint would I need to used.
3. Would I need to use a waterproof paint - any recommendations ?
I have an old type toilet - probably 25 yrs + old, So if I wanted to paint the whole thing (except the bowl and toilet seat): -4. Would I need have to use the same type of paint on all the parts;-It has the cinistern part just behind the toilet bowl and also has a couple of pipes behind.
Has anyone else painted their toilet or decorated it in some way and if so, Could anyone advise me on anything they have done or  ideas that they have help please. :T
P.S. Please don't  but could any technical DIY termology be explained in simple terms as I am a single female that is still learning DIY. :embarasse~~~~~~~~~~~~:kisses3: "In Raising Your Children;" :kisses3:"Spend Half As Much Money n Twice As Much Time."0 -
I would not recommend it, as chemicals tend to blister and make the paint peel. However if it is a ceramic toilet then enamel paint would be the best soloution. enamel paint will only stick to a perfevtly claen and dry area (free from chemicals) it is however quite expensive as paint goes and due to the original colour of your toilet may take sveral coats.
When the enamel dry's it forms a very hard surface very much like the toilet had originaly.
hope this helpsThe more you listen the more you hear
The more you look the more you see
The more you search the more you find
M.S.E is great and FREE so let's all make the most of it it0
