Well thats it settled, we're gonna hit Chessington!
We're staying in London before travelling to Birmingham, so should be quite convenient, and it sounds like just what both the kids would love. They're a bit like me, (weak bellied). Its the wife who loves the "white knuckle" rides and ends up forcing us to ride them with her (then laughs at our faces).

Drayton also sounds intresting, but I think i'm a bit put off as its not as well known as the others. But you never know, we're there in the south for almost a week so we may well end up going to more than one theme park!!!
Thanks anyway for your help, really appreciated.

there's a sea life centre in birmingham if you're into that kind of thing, i haven't been though.

my husband says drayton manor's best if you're going to brum. i know it's not as well known as tussauds parks but your wife will love it :D there are lots of non-scary rides, but the scary rides there are fantastic, and better than alton towers i'd say (but that's because i like drop towers and swing things, i'm not into roller coasters). look at drayton's website, apocalypse is amazing, it's the highest drop tower i've been on and if you're 1.4 you can choose to stand up, or even stand with no floor (there's a harness). if you're standing, the slight tilt at the top makes it much scarier and when you drop you feel your knees turn to jelly, it's fab  kids of 1.2 can sit down on it, spud's not too keen, he likes roller coasters better. maelstrom is like a pirate ship but circular, my favourite ride ever. the log flume is the best i've been on. i hate the stand up roller coaster but i'm not a coaster fan. the circus is good. tell your wife i recommend it :rotfl: we went around easter time and the lemurs had babies, they were the tinest things with little stripey tails like pipe cleaners and little monkey faces, i went all gooey over them because they were so cute!!

you might like west midlands safari park actually, i can't remember much about the rides but the safari is excellent, it's great seeing zebras and giraffes close up, especially when they eat out of your hand. it's £7.50 to get in, but there are 2 for 1 vouchers on gosummer.com. rides wristbands are a separate charge, but the entrance to the park comes with a free return visit, so you can go back and have a rides-free day, just enjoy all the animals, pet a snake etc.
