£8 off alton towers

Options
okay so it's not as good as a 2 for 1, but if anyone's desperate for a saving at alton towers there were 4 vouchers for £8 off on my tray liner when i went to mcdonalds yesterday. shame it's only £8, i know they've done 2 for 1 trayliners in the past.

Can you spare these vouchers? I'm hoping to take a family of 4 to a theme park around London in the first week of Aug. I'd love to take these off your hands.

miser i can send them if you want them but are you sure it's alton towers you're after? it's in the midlands, not london. these vouchers are all for alton towers, not for chessington or thorpe park. there are probably lots of offers around for those parks though if you do a search on here, or check lastminute.com

also when going as a family of 4 sometimes it's cheaper to get a family ticket.

Jellyhead, Alton towers location wouldn't be a problem, as we're intending to stay in that area. But on looking at the websites of various Theme parks, as the kids are under 10, I think Chessingtons looks more suitable for them. As it says on the website "90% of the Park's rides and attractions are suitable for children under 12". So as it might be better value to go there, i'll give those alton tickets a miss.
    Any advice? Anyone?

how old are the kids? there are things they can do at alton towers, my 8 year old loves it there but the only 'big' ride he can go on is spinball whizzer, and the queue is always more than an hour long. he's not tall enough for the other rides. the ice magic show is really good. if you can travel as far as tamworth (my geography is awful, all i know is that i live 40 minutes from alton towers and about 60 minutes from tamworth) drayton manor park is fantastic, it has a really good selection of rides, lots of scary big rides with a 1.2 or 1.3 height limit but also lots of non-scary rides and lots for younger children. the log flume's fab.

we went to chessington recently and had a really good day out. the indiana jones style shooting ride is really good (like a ghost train but you have a laser gun and targets to shoot - egyptian tomb theme) but i'd say a ten year old might be a bit bored there, it's definitely aimed at younger children. it's fun though, we especially enjoyed one of the pay-for stalls, it was dennis the menace catapulting instead of the usual ring toss/hook-a-duck. the mcdonalds in chessington has a spooky theme, it's by the 'vampire' ride and has gargoyles, curvy metal chairs (medieval style perhaps?).

Coo! you guys are lucky to live in an area with a choice of parks, the likes of us only get a chance to visit once in a blue moon. So thats why I want to be sure we go to the right one. The kids are 7 & 9, there not crazy into fast spinning rides, more important is the choice and variety of attractions. and the choice seems to be between Alton, chessington and Thorpe. Legoland doesn't appeal to them (or me)

we liked legoland, but spud was only 5 or 6 when we went, i don't remember much about it and nor does he. we went for the hallowe'en fireworks, i remember they were fantastic but nothing else sticks in my mind. chessington's miles away, we went on the way home from a holiday (in wales, i don't think it was actually on the way home, my husband wanted to go though!). we like being so close to drayton manor though, it's fantastic. i don't like the zoo much though. blackpool is less than 3 hours away too, southport too i suppose.

i think your kids would like chessington. my 8 year old loves fast rides, i keep forgetting that lots of kids his age don't like white knuckle rides - his friends and my nephews included! whenever we go anywhere his friends only like the smaller rides and are even sick on pirate ships, while spud's looking longingly at the 1.4 rides. he'll be 9 in a few days, most of his schoolfriends are already tall enough for the big rides but they would hate to go on them, spud's the smallest child in his year group and is desperate to grow lol! so as long as yours aren't adrenaline junkies wanting white knuckle rides they should love it, spud likes it anyway, he wants to go again.

chessington has the best laser gun train thing we've been on, the theming is excellent. there aren't many big rides, and the vampire is like alton towers nemesis but is really slow, my husband thought it was boring but he's a roller coaster enthusiast. dragons fury is like spinball whizzer but kind of slower, not as scary or sick-making and there's a talking dragon outside that's quite cute. spud loved the bubbleworks, it's a water-ride, you know like river caves, you just float around in a boat and look at scenes, it's all about fizzy pop, the end is fab, you go under a water thing, lots of spouts of water - you don't get wet it's just really pretty. there's a walk-through spooky house in 3D, that's great too. we had a really good day there, none of the rides were very fast but it was nice, good theming and 'interesting' rides rather than alton towers focus on being fast and scary. also lots of places to sit down, lots of places to eat. i'd definitely go again if it wasn't so far away (i get car sick).
