Hi
Could anyone offer any advice on how I could repair 3 broken keys on my Roland fp1 digital piano?
Is it something I can do myself or should I take it to an expert?
I'm based in Chester, Cheshire. Anyone know any local(ish) repairers?
Appreciate any advice
Thanks
Allan

My G# just went bad. Now it is sunk into the keyboard. I just paid 60$ to get the outputs repaired, I really don't want to lug it back. I will just open it up and see if I can do it myself, before I lug it across town.0

Hi
No luck whatsoever I'm afraid. I got offered £100 as a trade in which I thought was a bit insulting.
Let me know how you get on opening it up - I might try the same.

I popped it open and got the keyboard out. It's tricky, but just keep unscrewing stuff. One of the counterwieghts was broken off at the end. I popped the surrounding keys off and was able to get it out. I will try using Locktite to glue it together. I think it should work fine. I noticed that several other counterweights were starting to show cracks. I'm guessing I will have to do this again. It looks like this is a big fail point for the FP-1.0

Hi GNT
I'll give this a go. Let me know if the locktite works.
Thanks

It didn't work out right away. At first, I took the little counterweight out and glued it together, but when I tried to put it back in, it didn't want to fit into the little slot. Apparently the little peice with the metal in it was just barely as wide as the slot. If it were a new peice, I probably good have shoved it through, but the glue just didn't want to hold up to the abuse.
I changed glue to superglue, since I think the glue I chose in the first place was wrong for the job. Then I glued the peices together in place. It required a little bit more dexterity, but not too much since the peices really wanted to fit together anyway.
I have the keys back in the keyboard and all is working just great now. All I have to do is put the whole damned thing back together. It won't be easy, but I suspect it is all downhill from here.0 -
I am going to buy a fp1 roland from ebay and the seller says that one key is sunk an it does not make any sound. Is this the same problem you experienced with yours (your key also didn't make any sound at all)? Did you finally fix it?0

Hi xalouris
Sounds like the same problem as mine. I haven't done anything with my keyboard as it's all midi'ed up and linked to Cubase. I've got the use of the bottom 4 octaves of the keyboard so decided to leave well alone.
DIY for me stands for destroy it yourself
Dawsons offered me £100 for mine as a part ex
Sounds like GunsNTulips had far better luck than me.
Hope this helps

Why can't you chose songs which don't use those keys;)

Difficult when you are trying to write songs.
The notes choose themselves :rotfl:

I had this happen a lot of the keys. I'm an original FP-1 owner who bought this about 14 years ago. The good news is you can buy the replacement hammers directly from Roland. Call their support department directly. The replacement is pretty easy to do - just open up the many screws and then its almost like lego's.
I am original owner, but don't have my purchase docs anymore. The person I spoke with said if I had the original sales invoice, they would send me all the parts for free. As it is, I think its something like $4 or $5 per hammer. Good luck.0
