Travel Insurance

Hi,
I have booked to go to Dominican Republic in March 2009.
Of course I have not used the travel operators insurance, and have taken the advice on this web site and decided to try one of the recommended ones, problem is I can't buy the insurance just yet as the holiday is quite a way off in the future.
Question is, I have paid the deposit for this holiday in March 2009, what would happen if I or my wife were made redundant, or unable to work for any reason. I guess we would have to pay for the deposit and depending on when we would have to cancel possibly nearly all of the holiday.
What kind of cover could I get that would cover me for the cost of the holiday in full should I be made redundant or unable to work for any reason.
I realise that the holiday insurance would cover this, but as outlined above I can't buy this until at least 9 months before I travel.
Many thanks in advance
Steve

You can buy an annual policy now. It will cover you for cancellation during its validity. Doesn't matter when the holiday is - it's when the event that causes the cancellation happens that counts.
When it expires, you buy another (or a single trip policy) to cover the holiday.
Or take the risk yourself until you can buy a policy.0
