Why Can't I See My Photos on my PC?

Hi
I would be very grateful of some advise here.

I downloaded some photos from my camera onto my old computer, and put them onto disk. I used CD-R disks.... not sure if that's ok?!?! Anyway, they played fine on the old computer and on my DVD player....

The old computer went kaput and we got a laptop.... but when I put these disks containing the photos in it says 0 items on the disk? so I can't look at my photos.....

Any ideas?

Thanks

what format are the photos in?
and what program are you now using to open the photos/disk?
    Get some gorm.
  • Hello
    they are .jpg
I am using Windows Photo Gallery (Vista)

When I go into computer and look at the disk drive then it shows the disk as being there - also the title that I have given it, but thinks there are no files on it?

    Thanks for your help.

  • PinkLady.

When you downloaded your pictures onto disk using your old PC did you close the disk.

You normally have choices when you remove the disk, mine has these.

Unless you tick the second circle down (this disk will be used on other PC's or device's) you will not be able to use the disk with your photos on any other PC or device.

Can you remember what software programe was used for your CD burning?

You could try using someone elses PC with simular software on and then close the CD.

    Good luck.

  • I'm pretty sure that I did click on something to use it on different pcs etc. It is fine on my DVD player - and when I have given disks to other people (from the old computer) they have been able to see the pics.

    However....

I am also having probs the other way round - photo disks that I have prepared on my new laptop don't play on my DVD player (or my friends) - they do work in the machine in Boots though.
I was wondering whether it is some sort of setting on the laptop?
    Thanks

Before I download anything - as you might have guessed - I'm not the most techie person in the whole world! .... does anyone have any ideas as to whether I can change anything on the Vista settings to make it better?
    Thanks

What is the 'Vista thing' in relation to this? I haven't heard of it before.

There is a chance you are using very cheap CDR discs that are not very compatible?
  • Hi,,
The old disks probably were a bit cheap
but i have put photos on different disks in the laptop to see if any of them work in the DVD player and they don't.... (not just my DVD player - tried in my friends as well, to make sure it wasn't that.)
That's why I think it's something that I'm doing on the new laptop - or not doing maybe?:rotfl:
    Thanks

  • Did you add the photos to the disk all at once? Or in several sessions?

If you have added photos in multiple sessions or "drag and drop" mode you may find the following useful:

    www.isobuster.com

there are paid and free versions. The free one has always worked when I needed it.

I have not tried this software under Vista.

The DVD's are a whole new question, there are a whole heap of DVD standards, best check carefully what one you burned at and that the Media and recording format are compatibel with the player you are using.
