Ok whilst i am still here i have a problem with my laptop screen. It has a white line running all the way top to bottom. Just less than a mm wide. I can still use my laptop its just such a pain looking at it all the time. Any ideas please. I think it may be getting wider over time. Not sure.

I think that may be bad news, sorry to say. The most probable cause is a breakdown in the connectors that run along the top and bottom of the screen. In theory, it can be repaired, but last time I looked it would have cost more than a new screen.
I had a similar problem with a Sharp LCD screen which was ~just~ outside the warranty period. The bar stewards refused to replace it (note to self: never, ever buy anything from Sharp again). Apologies, had to get that off my chest...
If it becomes unuseable, it might be economically viable to get a secondhand screen off Ebay and have that fitted.0 -
if you can check on a monitor then you can be sure if it is laptop or just the screen.
I have the same problem though the line turns into a bar. It is however the sctreen on mine as the picture is fine on a monitor. I correct it with a clothes peg. There is likely a point round the screen where a little pressure will corrct it. Its thyat or a replacement screen for me, which i can't justify the cost at the mo.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
A clothes peg - what a great idea!
Unfortunately it would only have worked on mine for a short while, as it got progressively worse and now has 4 lines, none of which will go away if you press the surround above them...0 -
yeah, peggy, as the lappy is known as, has held out since the summer but it is slowly getting worse, well its ok when its there, but it just takes longer messing about with it on start up.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Thank you for that. So what is the likely price of a new screen. Ball park figure. Oh i am soooooo useless with this sort of thing.Night Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

That would be easier to answer if you said what make and model your laptop is!
But typical Ebay prices seem to be about £130, which probably explains why Peggy the laptop still has her peg...0 -
Plug in an external monitor, you could get a nice 17" for the same money as a rep;acement screen.0
