We are going to Menorca in July for 2 weeks. Just wondering which people thought were the nicest resorts and best beaches on the island.
Our aim is to explore the island. We are collecting a car from the airport.
Thanks all

If you are wanting best beaches, then you are probably looking at Son Bou which has miles of golden sands, or Cala Galdana, where the beach doesn't stretch for so far, but is golden sands and crystal clear waters.
If you are planning to explore the island then Cuitadella is a great place to visit, it has a great harbour, plus there is a central square where there is a maze of cobbled streets leading off.
Other places we enjoyed were Mahon (the capital), and Fornells. You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0 -
Been to Menorca twice the last 6 years (very popular with families) and we stayed in Cala'n Porter, beautiful beach, nice people, reasonable prices with restaurants etc.Enjoy.Jo x:A0

I absolutely agree with all the above. We had a cheap deal and stayed in Cala Forcat which was ok for a base but wouldnt recommend staying there to be honest. Easy to drive around the island tho. Cala galdana was definitely the prettiest beach in my opinion and loved the shopping in Mahon and the market in Cuitadella.0 -
Menorca is a wonderful island. Loads of beaches. Get a guide book and explore.
Cala Galdana is very pretty
Es Grau - near Mahon - excellent for children as very shallow
Beaches on the North are genberally difficult to access though are quieter
You won't be disappointed.0 -

I agree with all thats been said. I have now been to Menorca 4 times and it is ideal for families. Driving is easy as there is only one main road which cuts through the island. The only problem with this is that you cannot follow the coast around the island, but hey the island is so small you can cover it in a day.
I would agree that Cala Galdana is one of the best beaches. Another one not mentioned is Arenal D'En Castell.
Fornells is a great place to spend a day as it has a small beach , a very nice harbour/marina and plenty of small friendly restaurants. Beware of teh prices at the restaurants some are very expensive whilst other offer a very reasonable set menu - take time to look closely at the menu's before going in. Also worthwhile at Fornells is a trip around the bay which is relatively inexpensive.
You didnt say where you were staying. If you say which resort you may get good advice on what to do/see/where to eat etc.

If you go to Cala Galdana take a walk up the path onto the side of the bay that takes you up high looking down over the beach.
Took a photograph up there about 6 or 7 years ago and looking at it now must be one of the best photos I have ever taken.0 -
I totally agree with all the comments so far. The beach that I have spent most time at is Arenal D'en Castell which is fantastic for children and is absolutely stunning to look at.
Wherever you go in Menorca, I am sure you will fall in love with the place.
Have a great time...Comping from May 2012
Thank you to all that post & contribute, I think you are wonderful, I could not achieve without your help
