Would like a credit Card - only been in UK 5 months!

Hi there, i was born in Scotland but left with my parents when i was 4 - i have recently returned with my own family (25 years later) and trying to settle. I would like to get a credit card but nobody will give me one since i have not lived here 2 (or in some cases 3 years). Do i just need to acept that this is the way it is or is there a way around this? Thank you i have been a lurker on this forum for a while now and have got some great tips!

It is going to be a problem, and you shouldn't try too many applications as that can damage your credit rating.

Your best bet is a credit card with whoever you bank with. Ask them at what point they will give you a card. When they are willing to give you one accept it regardless of the terms. Just owning and using a card will rapidly improve your credit rating.

If you have not already then make sure you are on the Electoral Roll. Do not apply for any credit cards until you are on it.

Try Capital one? They are good at giveing credit cards to people that get refused elsewhere!
They may ask for a deposit? but at least you will have one, and it will build up your history at the same time!
Then you will get better credit cards at a later date.
    Hope this helps

If you had an amex card in the country you were living in previously, they can normally set you up with a new card where you are now since they are an international company and your records can get transfered across with you!

    Hope that helps!

I applied for a Capital One card and have a bad credit rating. They offered a £200 limit, but asked for a £200 deposit.

Could try some of the cards here: http://www.creditsolveuk.com/creditcard.htm

According to a poster in the another thread the Monument card is a good bet. His wife applied for one, with no credit history and got a £2,000 limit.
