Problems when trying to use Spybot

Hi all - can you help please. Everytime I run Spybot, before it reaches the end of the scan, I get a box up saying "An error has occurred in your program" I then get the option to either ignore or close. It won't do anything when I click ignore so I have to choose close, which turns the computer off. I am then left in the position of not knowing if the Spybot cleared anything it found or if I'm still vulnerable. Also there are times when I can't acutally turn the computer off and I have to switch it off at the plug.
As I'm sure you've gathered I not really very techie but I do love my computer and I would be grateful if anyone has any idea what's causing the problem. I have free AVG anti virus installed and the Spybot program was free too.
Appreciate your help.
Cheers

Strange, I get the same thing, but my laptop just shuts down without any error messagesetc. I have ccleaner but running that hasn't help. I had the same problem in the past (have just had to do a complete reinstall) and I think it may have been an out of date driver causing it. At the moment my Driver Detective program is showing that Ihave several out of date Intel drivers, but when I try to update nothing happens.
Sorry to crash in, but hopefully my experiences might help.0 -
I "upgraded" to SpyBot 1.5 a while ago and sometimes the PC would freeze at the end of a scan.
I know it's not generally recommended to go back, but this weekend I've gone back to 1.4, and everything is fine.
SpyBot 1.4 is still available at

I was using 1.4 and installed 1.5,which seemed to make the problem worse.
However, have now fixed the problem which I will explain if it helps any one else.
I noticed that late in the Spybot scan my laptop would start to make a noise, indicating that the processor and/or fans were over working. I blew out the dust (lots of it because I have parrots) through every slot I could find and it cured the problem. Now my laptop is much quieter and also seems faster. :T Hope this helps0 -
Hi all - many thanks for your suggestions. I've carried out everything suggested and when I ran Spybot again I got the following message near the end of the run "Metcafe has caused an error in KERNEL.... Metcalfe will now close" As I tried to close it down I noticed something saying there was an "Access Violation".
Any other ideas how I could sort this? I'm a bit concerned in case there is something sitting in my computer that can allow someone to access my files.
Thanks again0 -
Just to say that I've been running 1.5 for some time now without any problems.
If people think there is a problem with 1.5 perhaps they might consider emailing the details to the Spybot people. They seem to be quite keen on not having bugs in their software.0
