I'm no driver but saw this on another site and thought it worth passing on,

Best tip is to not accelerate harshly and not drive too fast, anticpate teh road and slow down gradually (ie Traffic lights, queues) rather than brake at last second. Check you have tyre correct tyre pressure too and make sure you car is serviced at the recommended rates.

Shame it is American, they can hardly be described as a fuel efficient nation.:rolleyes:

That chain email has been published (and the dubious science behind it rubbished) several times on here over the last few years.

You would do better to go with poppycat's tips.

Like a lot of things, common sense is your best money saving ally!

Adding to poppycat's excellent post -

Make sure you get rid of all excess weight in your car - do you really need to carry all that junk? And of course, using your car less will help.

I've saved loads by leaving my car at work and using my company van to get home - because I can't use it after work (save for getting home) I'm not tempted to just go out for a drive. I used to use a tankful of fuel over a weekend just aimlessly driving about! Of course, if I really need the car I drive to work and pick it up... but being a Money Saver now I don't unless I have to! :rotfl:

The stuff listed will make such a micro difference and as other posters have pointed out you would make more difference by anticipating traffic conditions, removing junk, going on a diet or simply driving slower.

When possible, fill up your vehicle in the morning. As it was explained, cooler A.M. temperatures make gasoline more dense. When temperatures are warmer later in the day, some of the gasoline you are putting in your tank can change into a gaseous state. Simply stated, you get more fuel for your dollar when temps are cooler.

The temperature in London today was 9C and the night temp was will be about 7C a massive 2C difference! That's a bit different from the 40C temperatures in some US States.

Following the advice in the next tip may depend on your situation. If you ever see one of those huge gasoline trucks filling up the gas station's underground tanks, do not fill up your vehicle, if at all possible. The reason for this is when the station's underground tanks are being filled, the gasoline within them is agitated. More dirt and other nasties can then be pumped into your car and, folks, that's not a good thing. Also, with the underground storage tanks being agitated, more heat is created. Again, heat helps turn gasoline into its gaseous state. Hence, more fumes, less fuel.

One word. Filters. A tank and the pumps have a series of them.
