I use sms.ac and don't get charged for sending or receiving, however if the receiver replies to an sms.ac oriented sms THEN the sender gets charged 50p. My boyf and I tend to use it as we remember about the charge, whereas other family and friends dont know or forget.
also it will accept any mobile no. so a french no. is fine, and with picture messaging, if you send one it will send an sms requesting the receiver to visit a sms.ac website link, so in other words you cant look at the pic on the phone.
