Batch convert docx to doc

Leading on from my previous thread, anyone recommend a utility for batch converting docx to doc format. Doing it one by one opening them and saving to new location each time will be tedious.

Where? Do you think I'd have posted a thread if I hadn't already been googling?

I thought the pack from Microsoft was for going the other way (batch convert doc to docx)?

I don't know of anything specifically designed for batch converting. I guess it wouldn't be too hard to do programatically if you don't mind doing some coding

I think it can convert the other way around but only one at a time which is exactly what Word 2007 can do already. I think it is just a tool for people who don't have Office 2007. But in my case I do but want to view the docs on something that can't view office 2007 file formats.

    Why not go here http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloads/default.aspx

and download Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1.

This will enable earlier versions of Office to view docx files.

I want to actually convert batches of the files so I can view them on my ipaq. As I already mentioned this only converts one at a time and I may as well do that in Word without installing anything.

Because you stated this, I thought that the Compatibility Pack would suit your purpose. i.e to view .docx files on a platform without Office 2007, as opposed to converting to .doc. Soz!

The compatibility pack isn't a viewer though. It just converts a file you select into another format. I wanted something that will batch convert hence my OP "Doing it one by one opening them and saving to new location each time will be tedious."

If you're comfortable writing a Word 2007 macro, the following page might be useful:
