A tip I got from another MSE thread was if you use semi skimmed milk buy full fat milk and add water to it. Been doing it over the last few weeks and its saved me a fair bit. 2 litres of full fat is the same price as 2l of semi skim but by adding water you can get almost 3 litres. Obviously how much you add is according to personal taste.
If you use dilute juice for drinks and have kids old enough to help themselves they usually use way too much per glass.I keep a few old juice bottle and fill them with with juice i've already added water to and keep them in the fridge. saves a small fortune over the month.
If you use a lot of cheese in packed lunches ,grate it first and keep it in the fridge in a tupperware box. It'll go twice as far as when you slice it.
Use half the amount of washing powder recommended on the box, works every bit as well. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

Haven't done the milk thing yet, but do all the others. My ds & DD are 14 & 17 and like me to have it ready mixed, cos then it's nice and cold. I daren't mix it toooooo weak though! THey've asked for a bottle of water in the fridge too. Must find a nice clean one for that.
Someone here suggested 'diluting' the washing powder with washing soda, so have been doing that. Not quite satisfied with the white shirts, but everything else is just fine.miserly_mum wrote: »A tip I got from another MSE thread was if you use semi skimmed milk buy full fat milk and add water to it. Cut your shopping bill by using wash balls and tumble dryer balls. They do not suit everyone, however, I use nothing else. I have not bought soap powder or fabric conditioner for two years. My fabrics keep their colour and last longer, and when I wear perfume, this is what people smell, rather than my laundry detergents. You can get them all over, but if you are really stuck you will definitely get them at Lakeland Plastics.0

Does anyone else find that the dryer balls dent the dryer drum? They also make quite a lot of noise. Now the dryer is in the garage I don't use it much but I can't be faffed hanging undies and socks out , so it use used once a washday.Cut your shopping bill by using wash balls and tumble dryer balls. I think £150pcm is excellent! Keep up the good work.
We spend about £40, but only get 2 pints a milk from the milkman each week for the weekend. I buy all other milk reduced at Makros.

I have cut down my expenditure by using money off coupons - Tesco (not my favourite supermarket) accept them even if you haven't bought the product, as long as it is an item they stock, I usually manage up to £10 off each shop by using these, which can be found online, in magazines and newspapers etc. Would be interested to know which shop has the tumble balls on offer as mentioned above0
