Is it cheap in Hong kong for food, accomodation, drinks, shopping, etc...?

Who would you book with? I did a quick search for Hong Kong, looks quite interesting, and fairly cheap on expedia in early September for 7 days.

    cheaper than here, yes.

I would go to china, I have been to NY and China and China is more fun and you can do anything you like withoput worrying about costs.

redrabbit29 - what is your budget, what duration and what do you want from this holiday?
  • Based from experience I would choose JAPAN then CHINA then NY

china is just too big to to tour unless u know which exactly you want - shopping vs culture vs gambling

Japan is definitely a thumbs up. Land of Naruto, anime, mangga, cherry blossoms, geisha, japanese art, algorithm march, origami, bonsai, pacific ring of fire

  • I don't envy your decision - NY is a great city but it's not a cheap place, I almost booked the cheap flights with Delta last week but for the two of us with accomodation its a very expensive 4/5 day break. Your other two destinations are real holidays you could strech out to a couple of weeks for the same sort of cash. If you're really fascinated by NY do it but hit it hard and attempt to do the lot, no expense spared even if it's only for four days. You'll love it.. I did.

Infact I'm having a similar problem myself, im trying to book our belated honeymoon and can't chose between:

Road trip up the West coast of the US from San Fran' doing the parks, final destination Banff/Calgary area. Did Las Vegas last year and loved the area but not so the strip.

An organised tour of Sri Lanka and possibly a few days in the Maldives.

Organised tour of China with add on of Hong Kong.

Never really thought about Japan, going to look now.
  • I'd say Japan and China can be bewildering places (in a good way though if you want that type of adventure) so you will need to arrange things ahead of travelling whereas NY has a familiar feel and lends itself to more on-the-fly activity. It's also much easier to navigate thanks to a lot of recognisable landmarks and a grid layout to the streets if this concerns you.

China is still developing as a tourist destination so is a shade behind where Japan and NY are right now. Bear in mind this year will be a busy one for China with Beijing hosting the Olympics - expect the summer to be very hectic.

I'd say Japan might sate your appetite to travel somewhere new and different. It is an experience like no other IMO. Conquer that and then consider China. NY will always be there and is a good short notice/city break option though the dollar is predicted to make some comeback against the pound this year.

  • NYC is very over rated, china is intense (you are hounded in the streets), but I still loved it! you're money will go a long way there and you will be treated well in the hotels.

Japan - it's on my to-do list as well :D

  • If your young enough you can go to NYC at anytime. If you are a relative inexperienced tourist go to Japan and cut your teeth so to speak then do china afterwards.

I love Japan its my favourite country and I have been to 57
The best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten
