    Hiya,

Okay, so I posted a thread at the beginning of the year.....but now, I go next week and am so excited I might burst......

    So couple of questions please:

    - flying with Easyjet for the first time.....any advice or things I should be aware of?

    - Staying near the Spanish Steps........any recommends for places to eat great food - cheapish??

    - want to visit Coleseum, any advice?

    - best way to get from Campino (is that how you spell it?) airport to city?

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully accepted, as this is our first visit, and first time away without the kids for yonks!

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer me,

    Ta v much,
    H xxx

We will be travelling in around three weeks time on easy jet.Make sure you take some prepared food for the flight.Watch your luggage sizes and weight as they maybe picky.Arrive in good time at the airport.
Watch for the guards(unsure what they are really called around the Colusiem
-They want money to have their photo taken with you.(probably unofficial of course).Remember when you buy anything in Italy they should give you a proper printed receipt.Officials from the finance may prosecute you and the trader if you don't have a receipt-make sure you get one.In the markets they
may do you a receipt and put it in your carrier bag with the purchase.Beware this maybe for a lower amount.
Unsure about a good place to eat as we made up some yummy mozzarella and ham rolls from the supermarket.Try a four cheese pizza. We go for a calzone.(like a trouser leg all rolled) and the ice cream choice in Italy.Oh not forgetting to mention the delicattesens for choice and calories. The santa rosa and cannelloni are a favourite with these lot.
The feedback I am getting from the locals and some family is that since the introduction of the Euro there, prices have increased so do your sums when buying for value. You may get at least 1.5 euros for your pound now (no commission).I remember when we went to Spain at Christmas the rates were better there than here(no commission again)
    Have a great time.

Hi, just come back from Rome yesterday. The easyjet flights where spot on time but had to wait an hour and a half to get on the terravision bus at ciampino airport. It was total chaos with people queue jumping. I had my bags on two buses and was told to take them off both times as the bus was full. Never again!!! Wish I had used the public transport which was cheap and regular. Most attractions are fairly reasonably priced. The coliseum was 9 euro which also included access into the Palatine section of the forum so keep your ticket.

The queues for the Vatican museum can get very long if you do not get there early. I tried on two occassions to get in but was unwilling to wait the two and a half hours it would have taken to get in. So get there very early.

If you get the chance try heading for the catacombs at San Callisto. The number 218 bus will take you there from piazza San Giovani. It was well worth the trip and so peaceful out there especially after the noise of the city. It closes for lunch from 12.30 to 2.30.

You can buy bus, tram and metro tickets in advance from the metro stations or tabbachi( newsagents) . It is worth having a few in your pocket. You MUST validate the ticket when you first use it either at the turnstile at the station or the machine on the bus as there is a hefty fine of 50 euros if caught without a validated ticket.

Have fun and remember it is VERY hot out there at the moment even the Italians where complaining about the heat.

I know a lot of folk wi ll turn their noses up but cheap and cheerful McDonalds are plentiful in Rome. With your back to the Spanish Steps turn left and just up the road on the left is a McDonalds cofee/ice cream !!!!!! with the ususal type of restaurant upstairs with a great salad bar. You could miss it because it is designed to blend in with the architecture. There is another Mac's with outside seating area opposite the Collesseum. There are some super little electric buses that start circular routes from the Plazza del Popolo and wind up and down the cobbled back turnings where you would think it impossible to drive through - an absolute must to get from one sight to another but taking in the true spirit of Rome. Take a look at the previous Rome threads as there is heaps of great information to make your stay so enjoyable. Rome is fabulous. Easiest way to get to central Rome just take the airline bus - just so,so easy.
