Help please on Firefox settings

Can you Firefox experts please advise me on a problem that came up today.

I run Firefox with the options ticked to 'Always clear my private data when I close Firefox' and to 'Ask me before clearing private data'.

Today the usual prompt to clear the private data stopped coming up when I close Firefox.

I have not changed the version of Firefox, and not knowingly changed the configuration, so the two options above are stilled ticked.

Can someone please advise me as to what may account for these options not working.

Just loading Firefox creates some private data, such as browsing history and cookies, so there should be a prompt to clear such data because these options are ticked.

To ensure there was some personal data, I logged into Hotmail, and closed Firefox, and the expected prompt did not appear. On restarting Firefox, my Hotmail session was still open, because the cookies were still there.

However, having shut down my pc earlier this afternoon, on restarting the pc, these options are now working again, so I guess there will be no way to find out what made the options stop working this morning.
