Best type of mattress

Thank you to everyone for your advice-theres some real Bed Professors out there! Anythings got to be an improvement on the current bed as it feels all "ridged" and makes a real noise when you move -like the springs grinding against each other. I may give the memory foam a miss though as...ahem.. my dogs sleep in the bed too and I can see us all overheating. I shall go and try some out in the showrooms(without dogs). Thanks again everyone.

The problem you have with your current mattress is quite a common fault with that make.

If you read one of my previous posts you will see that memory foam mattresses don't make you too hot as long as 1) the memory foam isn't too deep, 2) you have a memory foam matrress with springs underneath.

Thinking of buying a single bed seen two.

One is a no turn pocket sprung mattress 800 springs on a sprung divan base with drawers Staples £349 two year guarantee.

Other is a pocket sprung mattress you have to turn on a sprung divan base with drawers Excellence relax(never heard of them) 1000 springs one year guarantee £400.

Which is the better of the two beds?
What`s the difference between turn and no turn which is the best?

You would have to give more information about the Staples bed, like the model for example.

I can't find the Excellence relax bed anywhere. Where did you find it?

Think its made by Windsor the mattress is like a wool type thread not the satin finish.


Sorry Staples model I dont know it has the satin type finish

By 'wool type' I think you may mean stitchbond, which is a woven polyester which is often used on lower quality beds. I still can't find them on line.

The Staples bed is non turn, so is most likely to also be a lower quality bed, but it would be difficult to tell without having a look at the spec.

Where did you find both the beds?

i have a memory foam matress,

it keeps you nice and warm in the winter, makes you sweat buckets in the summer (you have to wash your hair pratically every morning as you can sweat that much)

and when i first got it i had bad headaches for about 2 weeks, probably too hot,

but besides that i love it.

There are 2 reasons why people say that memory foam mattresses are too hot:

1) Some manufacturers use very deep layers of memory foam, and tell people that the deeper the foam the better. The truth is that the optimum thickness for memory foam is 2" to 2 1/2". Less than this and it won't be enough to contour to your body. If the foam is too deep, then you will sink into it, and it will wrap around you making you too hot.

2) Mattresses that are constructed from memory foam on top of reflex foam tend to be much hotter than those that contain springs. This is because the air can't circulate under the memory foam to dissapate the heat.

I personally find my memory foam/pocket sprung mattress cooler than my old traditional mattress.
