B&Q bathroom quote

Have just had a frankly scary quote from B&Q for a new bathroom.
Total cost of suite, shower, taps etc £2000. Total cost of fitting £6000:eek:
Have decided unsurprisingly to look elsewhere for fitting but have not much idea of a realistic price so need a bit of kind advice.
The job will entail the following -
We live in Stockport if this has any effect on prices.
All advice very gratefully received!

The job will entail the following -
- Remove and get rid of current suite and shower.
- Remove tiles from walls
- Skim walls - 22square metres(hopefully full replaster not needed)
- Retile walls but only half way up (about 12square metres)
- Tile floor (4 square metres)
- Fit new toilet, sink, bath, mixer shower and cubicle in the same places as the old ones were.
We live in Stockport if this has any effect on prices.
All advice very gratefully received!

It's been pointed out on here that the fitting is subcontracted out, both B&Q and the company organising it take a significant cut.

Complete guesstimate £2000-2500 depending on tiles and preparation work in particular. Timewise 10-14 days to be on the safe side.

You need the plumber to cut off the existing pipes, remove the existing suite and prepare pipework for the new suite. Then get the plastering done, then fix the bath, then the tiling, then the rest of the suite. All very approximately. It isn't as simple as getting one trade in after the other, it needs coordinating. Also, any electrical changes? Because that will need an electrician most likely.

I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Hi Sammyandmimi
I am in south wales and do about 20 bathrooms a year. I would be looking to get quotes of around £2200 to £2400 for your job. In fairness i do all the work myself so dont have to get other trades in but this doesnt make that much difference to the cost. £6000 is absolutely scandalous in my opinion. I would consider it a great job if i could charge half of that.
Allow 2 to 3 weeks for the job too.
Hope that helps

The guys doing my bathroom quote from £2000 if everything is going in the same place with limited tiling to £5500 if they have to move stuff and tile wall to ceiling, and this is in London.
As it sale time I suggest you go to some of your local bathroom supply shops (make sure they don't do the fitting themselves) get quotes for a bathroom suite and ask them while getting the quote who they recommend.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Not sure you need the walls skimming if you are tileing on top. We didn't bother, just sealed all that was left with PVA/water mix and used plenty of adhesive, mind you did our own tileing.

I thought the same but I suspect it's unlikely they will! You must have used bucket loads of adhesive which probably would have cost far, far more than a couple of bags of plaster.

Hi there
The B&Q its to expensive for work there supply.Even if you will take any good well established company the prices for fitting will be no more than £3000
This is very small bathroom I will rather paint eifel tower for free if I have to choose B&Q0 -
Hi
We are in the process of having our bathroom done - it was ripped out yesterday and the plasterer is in today. It is stressful organising all the differrent workman, and we only have the downstairs loo until next Wednesday!
We found B & Q were pricey, so I did some research and bought from 2 suppliers - Shower cubicle, taps, radiator, thermostatic shower valve etc from www.clickbathrooms.co.uk - really helpful, 48 hour delivery and all of it has a 10 year guarantee. Got the sink, loo and whirlpool bath from Bathstore (not such great customer service) but the price was good.
Total £1300
Plasterer is doing all walls and ceiling - £200.
Plumbers - Ripped out old, moving everything around and fitting £1500
Unfortunately they are Bristol based - the plumbers were on recommendation from a poster on this forum and are fantastic.
There are a few extra costs:
Electrician for light and whirlpool, wetwall in the shower cubuicle (supplied by plumbers but can see here www.wetwall.co.uk) and plyboard for the floor,
tiling the floor ourselves, painting ourselves etc.
Overall I expect it to come in at £3,800 - £4,000
My advice get some more quotes. And why not use the local section on the forum to ask for recommendations - it was the best thing I ever did!
Good luck.
