You tube,stops when playing

Hi

Trying to watch the extra bit of martins show on the five.tv web site, it lets my play it and then stops.

What am I doing wrong?

I have a HP laptop 9mths old and am virgin 3 for £30 deal and am wireless if that has anything to do with it?

Thanks

What time of day are you trying to do this, and how fast is your internet connection? Youtube uses a fair amount of bandwidth, and some people find it does stutter - I used to be with Virgin Media, and many users were finding that Youtube was un-watchable at peak times - but if you try during the day / very late at night, it's a little better.

If you use Firefox, you could always get an extension that lets you save Youtube videos - save them, then watch at leisure, without having to worry about the stutter.

does the same here too. sometimes no problems at all and other times it can be impossible.
could be youtube servers too. (they have thousands of em) if you view another video it seems ok again?

    Simple workaround...

Press play to start watching the video, then pause it immediately. You should see a grey "progress bar" advancing along the timeline at the bottow of the video clip. This is the data being cached. Once this grey bar has reached the end of the video timeline, you can play the whole thing back smoothly without interruptions.

you have to let the video run through to the end, with all the pauses. Once it has run through to the end, replay and it should work no problem then with no pauses. A pain but sometimes its the only thing that will work.

    Life's way too short!

i agree. you can wait for as long as you want sometimes. it just doesnt want to play or DL. but change to another video and it works ok.
hence my comments on the youtube servers.

Bit of a pain though having to wait until the clip ends, some of the clips i've seen are anything up to 40 mins

The only other solutions seem to be upgrading your broadband speed, (or changing provider, if they have problematic connections,) or improving your wireless signal; it depends on what the limiting factor is.

To the OP: are you particularly far away from the wireless router, or have you got any other wireless / bluetooth / microwave devices nearby? You could try plugging the laptop directly into the router, to rule out the possibility of a poor wireless connection: Sometimes when the signal is weak or there's lots of interference, the wireless equipment changes to super slow speeds, which wouldn't be that noticable for normal browsing, but would definately have an effect on streaming video.

If its any help, I had the same problem. Youtube videos ran for a few seconds then stopped.

I discovered that this was due to low hard drive space on my old laptop.

I deleted loads of unwanted stuff and immediately after, it worked fine!

Worth checking your available hard drive space!
