Regarding the ceramic balls in the wash, I can only go off my experience in that they do work. Have been using them for a while now and had no problems. The washing time is reduced to 30 mins and even my white shirts come out perfect. Each to there own though. Can't see myself going back to phosphate detergents.

The Aussie Which trials(is there a pun there) were some years ago I think, have the products improved in that time?

I also have the washballs, recently got a pack from the ideal home show, and I can vouch for them too, I think they work and are hugely cheaper and better for the environment. I have the refillable ball so no waste.

For all those with washballs and who think they work. I would like to know the following :
    1. Have you washed your normal load with the same conditions and no washballs or detergent?
    2. Do you have heavy loads i.e. clothes that have stains or grease?

Have to say I have never tried without the washballs...I see what you are getting at though :)

I'm a messy eater though so my clothes usually have some kind of stainy foodstuff down the front (my other speciality is dropping choc on the sofa then sitting on it so it melts into my jeans) and clothes are often sweaty and smelly from cycling and it copes ok with that (doesn't Badgergal sound lovely!! :) ). For really tough stains I might use an additional stain removing thing like a vanish bar, but then I would have to do that with detergent anyway...

My boyf is like that too - the minute he gets dressed in the morning he spills something down himself. Especially if its a white item of clothing. Laundry now takes twice the time - having to scrub everything in the bath first to help get rid of whatever he manages to spill!

OOOHHH I can see a money-making opportunity. I shall start bottling and flogging east coast air:D It will come in a number of different flavours to suit all tastes and pockets.
RANCID FAT is sure to be a firm favourite. I'll garner this delicate atmosphere as I jog past the donut stall. If it sells well I could introduce it's sister fragrance "KEBAB"
For those who like a more natural aroma how about "DONKEY DUMP" which is quite easily collected round here or perhaps "BANK HOLIDAY PUBLIC TOILET"

Ol'Stylers of course eligible for the special offer of one for the price of two.;)

Limited edition specials available from the fair city of Bath:

    Eau de Rotting Canal

Eau de Building Dust bottled in the grounds of the still not yet open Bath Spa

    Eau de Hippy

    Eau de Pigeon Poop

    Any takers??????

Edited to include Eau de Steam Train - one just came past our house on the train line!!! Looks like those Virgin Pendolino's are already breaking down :p

    See your point as well.

I want to give these things a good go, baby is due in August and will see what the results are then as well.

I will say though that towels are much bouncier(?) and my clothes are clean ,although we don't have very badly soiled clothes, the only stuff is my running gear and I wash those by hand in soap flakes.

The reason I started using these things was from an ecological point. I was fed up with pouring so many chemicals down the drain. If, it comes down to it that we are not happy with the results you can be sure I won't be going back to the way things were, from what I can gather the manufactureres recommended powder scoops are WAY over whats really needed.

I wonder wether all the chemicals in "normal" detergent wear out clothes quicker?Anybody any thoughts?
