Can you use one of these whilst on board a plane ?

Yes - no problem on a plane. But not during take-off and landing.
You're not allowed to use anything that may affect your ability to hear emergency announcements during take-off and landing. Cabin crew check to make sure passengers do not use headphones at these times.0
