Studio - Christmas present returns

Hi - I ordered some xmas pressies end of Oct - early I know but was trying to be organised. Two were dressing gowns for relatives. I ordered S/M as the lady in question was a size 12 and a L/XL for my dad who is that size in all other clothes.
What a horror to find that both were too big and could wrap around both people 3-4 times, there were absolutely massive, you would laugh if you saw how big they were.
I rang customer service and explained, I was told that as it was over the 14 day return period I wouldn't normally be entitled to send them back for a refund, however, as I had not done this before, on this occasion I could.
The thing is I would have to pay £4.25 to send it back, I only told them of the 1 dressing gown as this was what I knew at the time - now I have since be told of the other dressing gown. Also a sleeping bag with a torch for a friends little boy - the torch does not work
Is it my tough luck that I did not check these item on receipt - also as they were christmas presents I am unhappy of this return procedure and having to pay the cost to send them back, especially as they are faulty in some way.
Any comments welcome - cheers

They should reimburse you for the postage to return the faulty item.
As the other items are just not suitable, you should pay for their return.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks dmg24, but they are faulty as they are not a S/M or L/XL - they are more like a XXXXXXL.0

Unless dimensions are stated, then sizes stated in that way are subjective.
For instance, some companies will have a S/M as a 6/8, for some it will be a 10/12, and for some a 12/14. I vary in size from a M to a XXL (I avoid the latter stores!).
Unless specifics are mentioned, they are not faulty.Gone ... or have I?0 -
The item is quoting Small/Medium 81-91cm (32-36") - from a womans point of view and I may be wrong but I am a size 16 so my hips are 40" and this S/M dressing gown is massively too big for me.
I enclosed a letter with the return - so will wait to hear what they say. But I still have 2 items at home that are no good and they said I could return the item that I rang about in the first place but any other item purchased need to be returned within the 14 day period.
Will learn my lesson from this and either buy items nearer the time or open and check items when I receive them - stupid me.0 -
I think the 'clear description' point from Distance Selling Regs could be applied here. Yes, sizes do vary from store to store but if they are as way out as you say then the guidance sizing they state has to be regarded as useless.
Having said that I don't know how Studio still attract custom, I have never heard of anyone who is satisfied! I had one brush years ago when goods failed to arrive in time for gifts; and they persisted in sending a repeat invoice months after items had been returned. Never again.
Op, I would argue that their failure to describe items usefully have rendered the goods unusable.
dmg XXL?0 -
I have clothes of size 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 in my wardrobe which all fit.
However if they gave inch sizes and it doesn't correspond then I would say that they were mis-described.
I would write in a letter and see what response you get.
I can't see it being worth going to court over the postage amount (as it's costs money even in small claims) so I would proceed with a letter.
I do complain when thing go wrong and 95% of the time I am successful. (I also give thanks and large tips where appropriate just in case anyone was think was thinking miserable s*d).0 -
Hi everyone (UPDATE)
I am so angry, Studio accepted my return of the ladies dressing gown, however - they sent me a credit note to spend the amount on something out of the catalogue.
I wanted the money taking off my account, not a credit note. I emailed them over a week ago and have not heard anything.
They also put a £20 admin charge on my account for non payment that month, to which I rang up and explained I could not see why, and not having a statement either to show any of this (I had seen the charge looking at my online acc).
They agreed to take it off on this occasion, great I thought. They then sent me another credit note for the £20 and £10 goodwill gesture. I don't want any of these credit notes, I want the money taking back off my acc balance.
I won't be using them again ,as this has made me so angry and the don't reply to any emails.:mad:0
