shutter broken on Canon Powershot A70 - is it worth repairing?

Hi,

The shutter has broken on my Canon Powershot A70. The two tiny plastic hooks that secure it have broken so that now the button is loose. Is it worth taking somewhere to repair? Or would it make more sense to buy a new camera? Reason I ask is that people have told me camera repairs cost a fortune. Someone I know had a broken battery compartment and was charged £70 to have a new one fitted. The shutter itself probably costs no more than £1 but with labour and sending it off etc, I don't know if it would be worth it.
Any recommendations for decent repairers?

Thanks

I'd suggest writing a letter to Canon asking if a repair is possible and/or economical. Chances are that they will say "No, but if you return it we will sell you a refurbed current model at a very good price". Good companies like Canon usually try to keep their customers happy.

If you search completed listings on ebay for 'faulty powershot' a few a70s have been sold for £10 to £13.50 plus postage.

Either sell yours on there and put the money towards a new one or see if you can buy one for spares.

how long have you had it for ?

did you break it or did it break itself

if the latter you can claim a manufacture defect with canon direct
