Just a quickie about the Euro and costs in Spain....

Hi everyone:D

I am wanting to book a holiday for myself and the hubby at the end of August(just out of peak season) and havent been away since the euro came into effect so donkies ago:rotfl:

I have had a bit of a search and it seems that its pretty damn expensive compared to when I last went away!!! I used to take 2000 pesatas for a night out and that kept me going for a good few hours!!!! It seems that cocktails are about £4 each and even a paella out is about a tenner!!! Is this right????
I would be very greatful if you could give me a few examples of prices... breakfast, pint, cocktails, bottled water, cheap brand fags, decent brand fags, meal out, bottle of wine, bottle of spirits etc

Sorry for all the questions but we are trying to do one on a budget as we have 5 young un's and we are not rolling in it(who is!!!!:p )

Thanks in advance...

hi spain has actually gone up quite a lot with the euro, a pint of lager all over spain expect to pay 3 euros especially if they have entertainment on. BENIDORM is the cheapest where you can get a decent pint of lager for 1.5 euors and a decent english breakfast for 5 euros, if you like spanish food then you can have a lovely spanish meal for 12 euros each including a glass of wine or beer. as for fags for example superkings are 30 euros a pack for 200 that is all over spain.
    hope this helps.
  • Thank you for that!
Whats benidorm like??? Never been and the only person I know who has been is my 60 year old boss lol

    Hi,

I went to Salou 2 years ago.

Benson & hedges are €32 or so - Fixed goverment price.

Food was about €6 to €8 a meal each.

    Beer approx €2.50 a pint.

    Breakfast €3-4 Euro.

These are from memory and are generally speaking - You can find some bars sellling beer as cheap as Benidorm, but these are certainly not very common.

There are a number of Irish and Scottish bars in this resort - The link below may help.

    Thanks

Ahhh, the big Euro price con. I wonder if that could ever happen in the UK?

Generally the information for Spain is the same as most places. The tourist places are always more expensive than "more local shops/bars". Often but not always this can be very localised too, for example a shop on the main tourist strip may be charging something like 20% more than a shop that's just a few minutes walk in a different direction.
Stick to local beers if you don't mind them (often cheaper and sometimes better, depending on your tastes of course) for example one club i went to in Spain, Stella and Guiness were 5 Euros each yet Cruzcampo was 2 Euros.

It's also worth remembering (as it makes you feel better, lol) that even though Spain isn't 'cheap like it used to be'. At least the spirits aren't measured like in scroogeUK, so you get more drink for your money whatever you go for. Particularly if you get a good bar-person :D.
