Paris Metro advice

Is anyone here familiar with the Paris metro?

I'm going to Paris on Eurostar which arrives at Paris Nord. I need to get to Paris Montparnasse for a connection which I haven't booked yet. From arrival at Paris Nord, realistically how long will I need to disembarke, get metro tickets, find platform etc etc and get to Montparnasse station and again find the correct platform etc.

many thanks.

From Gare du Nord you need Line 4 direction Porte d'Orleans - 13 odd stops. It would probably take less than half an hour because most of the stops are quite short You must allow at least an hour though because Gare du Nord is very busy at all times. Basically, turn left out of the Eurostar platform, follow the sign to the metro. Go down the excalators and there is a ticket booth just over to the right.Tickets are one price (one euro 50 cents or there abouts) and follow the Line 4 direction Porte d'Orleans. If your itinerary does not allow you to stay in Paris overnight, why not get an early Eurostar so you can spend some time in the City before going on to Montparnasse station. If you do, buy a Mobilis ticket which is 5 euro 20 cents good all day for Zones 1 & 2 on either bus or train .

    Have fun,

The Metro takes exactly 17 minutes between "Gare du Nord" and "Montparnasse". Add walking time between the two and you are half way there. Consult https://www.ratp.fr for further info.

I would also like to say thanks for the info. My folks are off there this weekend and will be staying in the montparnasse area as well.

Take GREAT care on the metro with pickpockets. They target tourists (carrying luggage cameras etc). In my case a lady put her arm up in front of me to stop me boarding the train whilst her young kid had my wallet out of my bumbag. It only had 6 euros in it as it was our last day but it was a horrible experience!

Unfortunately this happens in all large (and not so large) cities. Saw this in Prague on a bus, Paris on the Metro and London in the street. Wherever you are in the world today (even in Vatican City), watch your belongings.
