Negotiating price in sofa shops

Just wondering if anybody has any tips on getting a better price from the various different sofa shops out there.
Is it possible to negotiate, if so how much?
There's one sofa we like in DFS, it's full price, are they likely to budge?

My brother has this great method...
Ask them if they're having a sale soon... (invariably they do)
Ask them whether this sofa is going to be part of the sale... (hopefully it is)
Ask them, seeing as they are there, whether you can put down a deposit for the sofa for when the sale happens... (to make sure that you 'book it')
Ask them whether they can ensure that they put one aside for you... (which they should do)
Then ask them if you have to wait for the sale to happen given you've paid and they've got the sofa put to one side for you...
This is a bit of a punt, but can work wonders. You must do it step-by-step to have the desired effect. It also works better on smaller stores (so DFS may have a 'no sales until sales policy).

We bought ours from Furniture Village about 5 years ago. We'd seen it in a half price sale a few weeks before.
We went in and they were asking £2500 for the 3 seater sofa and footstool which we wanted. We said we'd seen them in the sale and thought £2500 was way too much. With very little haggling they agreed to let us have them at the sale price. We then ummed and ahhed a bit and said that was still too much, and that we really didn't want to spend more than £800, eventually they let us have them for £900 including extended cover (which we made use of when a spring went in the sofa 6 months later), we were really pleased with that. This was for a sofa which was made to order rather than showroom.
Good luck0
