Virgin Credit Card late fee when I already paid!

OK,
I don't yet have a DD set up on my Virgin Credit Card, but for my June bill I didn't pay the required amount over the bank or post office counter - instead I transferred funds from my Paypal account to more than adequately cover the minimum repayment. I took it for granted that this would count as my repayment for June .................. it didn't.

Instead I have been slapped with a £25 late fee and the repayment that was due for June has now been added on to the minimum payment required for July.

Who's right and who's wrong here?

Declan

Have you phoned them to ask? What did they say?

If you look at the reverse of your statement it lists methods to pay and paypal is almost certainly not one of them so I think they are right, however, if you call and explain what you did then you will probably find that they will refund the charges. If you are in the middle of a promotional period then you will probably have lost that too and would need to ask for it to be reinstated (this is more difficult).

I rang and it's not an acceptable payment method - something to do with eBay fraud.
    They halved the late fee.
    Disgusted I am!

As is so frequently the answer to people on here who feel badly treated by financial institutions: if you don't like paying charges, comply with your Terms & Conditions.

I am surprised that they gave you *any* of your money back!

Halving of the late payment fee is something of a result (particularly as you were technically in the wrong). If you still aren't happy you could try to kick up a bit more of a fuss (e.g. threaten to close your account), but you might not want to do this (particularly if you're in a 0% period and don't want to close the account) as they may still refuse to refund you and just close it.

The simple lesson here for everybody is always set up a minimum payment direct debit at the time you apply for the card, then its all sorted from the start. :)

I know that you are angry, but please tell us that you checked this out.....or you'll be chomping at the bit by next month.......if it applies.

In addition to fraud risk Paypal payments would be much more difficult to administer - I still can't believe you just paid via Paypal and are angry that they didn't like it ! I thought you were winding us all up in your first post ! How did you know which email address to use ? Where did you see Amex saying "Paypal accepted here" ? !!!

I have used net banking to pay my Amex cards in the past - very easy to do and much easier than queuing at lunch time !

Chalk it down to the hot weather and move on !

I've learned my lesson the hard way.

It's worked for me on a First Trust bank Visa card that I used to have so I assumed it would work on any card!

Oh well!!! Enough said, move on and deal with it!!
